After searching the real estate sites in Poland. I cant see that much difference in home prices in Poland compared to those in the US.. But here in America. Our wages are sooo much higher than in Poland. This makes home buying sooo much easier here in the US.

Here we go again.(AMERICA BASHING). Did you guys ever think that Americans(And Canadians) are not affected by this. It is all about oil. America's farm lands that once produced grains,are now switching to corn to make ethenol. We too are feeling it. Milk went from $2.00 a gallon to $6.00. Rye bread from $1.50 a loaf to $4.00.. Come on give us a break.

By all means. Use sour cream in your pierogi dough, It makes it real tender.. As far as I am concerned. That is the secret to good pierogi.

I also make my kluski with some sour cream. I never buy store bought ones. Home made kluski cook in three minutes. Whereas commercial noodles take 12 to 15 minutes

Allow me to clear one thing up.When I posted this thread, there was no malice intended, it just my curiousity as to why it was so different.Let me give you a few examples as to what we listen to. Below is just one of many that I know

Food / A Polish Soup-What is the name? [16]

HAH! How well I know this BARSCZ. Although my family is gone, I still make this soup more than just for Easter. It is delicious.

Here is the recipe
about 3 qts of water
one ring of fresh Polish sausage

Boil for about an hour
Make a zapraska consisting of a half of cup of milk
A half cup of sour cream
Thicken with flour

Pour into soup. It will turn white with stirring until all lumps are gone.

Here is where you have to be carefull

Start with a table spoon of vinegar
stir>>>>> TASTE Add as needed to taste

YES EGGS are a must. Hard boil eggs and cut in half and add to the borscz...
SERVED WITH A GOOD SEEDED RYE BREAD

We too added ham and horse radish at easter
This is a matter of choice

Franek here again.
After WW2, Poland was left in shambles. Families were torn apart,there was no food. Guess who helped out..? The good old USA. Grains were shipped to poland so bread could be made to feed the hungry. Polish American sent care packages to those left behind. There were clothes,food medicin and the US dollar.. In those days it went a long way..There was not a week that went by that I would'nt go to the post office to send a package.

America is a melting pot. Clothes were donated by many ethnic people. This is how America grew to be a mighty nation,we all pulled together. We all pulled our own weight. We never whined or cried.. We did something about it.

AMERICA is a good country. Why does everyone expect us to do it all.
There was a saying after WW2. LEST WE FORGET That was so we would remember the horror years.

As I sit here and read the resposes to this thread, I get very frustrated that I cant express why in my mind, I can see why older Poles remember that America was always a friend.I know and seen things that history books do not mention.

I am speaking of your grandparents. How well That I recall
That when we freed villiages in Germany,The young girls that were forced to work on German farms greeted us as we liberated them. I still remember these pretty little things with thier babuskas,hugging us and kissing us.( THEY LOVED AMERICANS) Then there were the Poles conscripted in the German army.. They surrendered in droves.They had no desire to die for Hitler.(They loved us) for them the war was over.

Come to think of it,I was but 19 years old. Today I am a Dziadek. So these peop[le that I speak of were your Grandparents. You young folks have a lot to learn. Life is good for you now.But it was not always like that

I just looked this up on Google.There were 586,628 Thousand Americans killed in Europe during WW2 not counting the wounded and missing.. I wonder what Expatroits high school teacher thinks is so laughable about that.

I ask for no thanks for what I did in WW2. I was just one in many million Americans that were called to duty. We were at war.

I know that I will hear that there many more Europeans killed in that period. I just wish that I had the answer. I dont.SORRY

I ask for no credit for anything. I am an 83yr old man. I served my country (AMERICA) during WW2. I remember liberating a German slave labor camp and have a Polish prisoner on his hands and knees thanking me as I fed him my rations. He appreciated it.
