News / Abkhazia and South Ossetia are independent states now! Poland reaction? [236]

1. No Nord-Stream pipeline.

I think I can safely say the Nordstream will be ready at term...
It's a business- and energy matter!

2. No Sochi Olimpics 2014.

Well...they just had a big party in Peking....now taking away
the games from Russia would be hypocrisy at best!
(At least Russia HAS votings actually)

3. Farewell to G8 and WTO.

Russia is hardly a minor business player. G8 and WTO are non-political but business/economic organizations...

4. Deep economic crisis in Russia starting soon, maybe already 2009 ?

Worse than in the current crisis in the US or Europe???

If you recall you went home to Germany,

Well...the home of my family was not in Berlin but in Breslau and in the surrounding litte towns and villages. My family lived, loved and died there in Silesia for many centuries!

So please start spinning another record!

Today everyone knows all to well the cost of not protecting and having allies that will never let Poland, Ukraine or other ex's be taken over.

Which cost was that?

Do you really think ONE politician in Washington lost one nights sleep about your fate??? They didn't and they won't....

Than why did Germany back Poland’s claim to access EU in 2004?

Ummm.....don't get me started... :)

But I don't think it was the EU, it might have been Poland becoming a member of the NATO what had Russia up the fence.

In case you have forgotten it but it was a deal that for the Sovietunion to dissolve and peacefully to retreat from central Europe
that the West would make no moves which would feel threating to Russia - means no further NATO enlargement, no encirclement by the NATO.
Something the West trampled on again and again whenever he could, the last try with Georgia in April.
(But some members had a better sense than that and showed the US their finger!)

But back to the point, should we avoid annoying Russia at all costs or only when the Americans are concerned?

It should be a case to case - decision every time. Peace and cooperation in Europe has to be the priority.
We have to accept and to take into account russian sensitivities and they have to accept and to take into account european sensitivities.

It's a give and take!

Like that helped in 1939, please.

And it should be different today how?

USA will umbrella Poland

How so?

I'm glad that they don't appease too much.

Not annoying your neighbour is not "appeasing"!
I think Poland still needs to find their balance...

why is this a reason, it's not even Russia said so.

Don't play daft!
It's meaned by Poland as a threat against Russa and it's seen by Russia as such!

Do you think Poland should just bow to Russia's threats?

Just don't wonder when you get such a reaction to your stupid actions!

"I believe that the events in Georgia caused the government finally to understand that black is black and white is white," Kaczynski told Polish television."

Georgia opressed minorities and attacked Russia...that's still the fact and not eve your one potatoe head can change it!

Do you think that Poland should avoid annoying Russia?

Would be smarter, yes...
Especially if you want to have your own sensitivities taken into account (as Poland often does...and loudly so).

Today, 09:49 Report #205

This is not about the "Missile Shield" it is just a reason for Russia to flex.

Then why being so stupid and shortsighted to give them that reason???

Do you really think the US will take risks for Poland???

iht.com/articles/2008/08/21/europe/policy.php

...The list of ways a more hostile Russia could cause problems for the United States extends far beyond Syria and the mountains of Georgia. In addition to increased arms sales to other anti-American states like Iran and Venezuela, policymakers and specialists here envision a freeze in cooperation on counterterrorism and nuclear nonproliferation, manipulation of oil and natural gas supplies, pressure against U.S. military bases in Central Asia and the collapse of efforts to extend Cold War-era arms-control treaties.

"It's Iran, it's the UN," said Angela Stent, who served as the top Russia officer at the U.S. government's National Intelligence Council until 2006 and now directs Russian studies at Georgetown University. "It's all the counterterrorism and counternarcotics programs, Syria, Venezuela, Hamas - there are any number of issues over which they can be less cooperative than they've been. And of course, energy."...

Oh, Russia has threatened Poland, many times actually.

I keep hearing that...but gimme some stuff to read about please....

Poland is banking on Russia not following through on what may be perceived as idle threats. America threatening to strike Russia is an effective deterrent for sure but that won't change the fact that, should Russia strike, heavy damage will be sustained.

Well...they could have saved themselves and us all that wondering....just a NO to the US would had been enough!

MISSILE SHIELD FALLOUT

Erm...yes?

I posted that article first...don't say we didn't warn you!
Without Missile Shield no Fallout...or as I keep saying: "You made your bed now lie in it!"

But there must be threats made by Russia against Poland before or Poles would surely not felt scared enough to agree to this thing, right?

What was it?

It also does not hurt that you have Poland between you and Russia.

Erm...not to hurt any feelings but Poland is surely no deterrent for determined russian troops wanting to have a coffee at the Ku'damm.

And why should they use ground troops if they could lay whole central Europe to waste with their nukes?

And about which threats coming from Russia are you talking especially?

Just a question...how about russian missiles on Cuba?

We have many thoughts Russia doesn't like - for example we criticize their disregard for human rights or their lack of freedom of press, also we disagree over Chechnya or Kosovo...there are many things.

At the same time we disagree with many things the US does, Iraq for example and Guantanamo or with Poland's potatoe heads twins...and still we are alive and well!

Can you believe it??? Disagreeing and still not at war with each other??? IMPOSSIBLE! :)

...But now, the 10 interceptor missiles headed for Poland have real power – and that power is symbolic rather than tactical...

This shield does sh*t for you but annoying your neighbours! If that is your course to secure Polands safety, good luck!

:)

PS: And why oh why do I never get an answer for the question where Polands energy should come from when the bear get's really miffed???

News / Funny German way of thinking ... "Stupid Poles" destroying EU? [57]

I agree...Russia has currently not a system which is seen by th westerners as democratic!

I watched an interesting documentation about Mrs. Politowskaja, started as she still lived. A brave, fascinating woman. She also supported the resistance in Chechnya and helped with her work to bring out many atrocities.

A state which fears such people so much that it resorts to harassing and killing them can't be called free and democratic in any way.

But whenever ordinary russians are asked the majority seems openly grateful and supporting about the way the Kreml is handling things. Putin has alot of fans between the Russians, the affection shown by so many seems honest, he is hardly a feared dictator.

The west has to accept that too...

He would have looked totally roman...he grew up in Rome as a noble hostage to secure the support of his chieftain back home in Germania, he got full roman education, served in the roman army as an officer and even got the roman knighthood awarded for his achievements on the battlefield.

Maybe he was even handsome....:)
His brother was a blonde as his romanized name "Flavius" shows, so he was possible blond too..

PS: There are no "hermanic" barbarians. The only passed down name is the latin "Arminius". Much later a german nationalist thought a possible translation would be "Herrmann/Armin"....so he became Herrmann...

...just kidding of course... :)
