Dragon against serpent.Slavic history is fascinating.
I have noticed that all kings whether in Poland,Czech or Ukraine have the ending -slav in their first names.Boleslaw,Swiatoslaw,etc.It cannot be a coincidence.
From the bottom of the hell, via Anatolia, Evil Serpent of Ottoman hordes come to swallow Serbian Empire and whole Europe then. As, respond - Dragon from the oldest Slavic traditions was needed once again.

I have travelled in almost all eastern european countries.Poland has a very special atmosphere in my opinion,you feel constantly that you are in Poland and not in another country.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]
Poland is one of the strangest countries I have seen.I mean everything is strange in Poland,which is not a bad thing actually,it adds suspense.
For example you see a landscape absolutely flat with no mountains at all,then you see trees placed in order,very tall and then suddenly you meet a mysterious gothic church or some strange castle in the middle of nowhere and everything gets different.It is an atmosphere.You have the sense that something very bad can happen in this territory and then there is Auschwitz.Poland can seem haunted.
Strange is the mix of german,austrian and polish architecture,cities looking very different between each other,the communist monster blocks which are not so properly built in Poland like in Czech Republic and some totally crazy things regarding architecture like a decadent,very ugly building built to replace one destroyed in war whch happens to be next to a marvellous pre-war villa with statues etc.
The big houses trying to immitate the german architecture but with unique polish style,very close to each other,narrow streets and very heavy,baroque style.
And then of course the gorgeous women like coming from fairy tales,the superstitions and this absolute craziness in underground that threatens to explode.
Trimmed and diabolical faces of unemployed gathered next to churches,a ssense of fear and high at the same time.

Anyway I take into account the research of Liddel Hurt who was a military historian and very objective.
The Germans had their plan to attack(plan Schliffen) ready from 1904 and worked it to the slightest detail.They had counted that the french army would require 40 days at least to complete its mobilization,during which the german army would have advanced to very advantageous positions.The russian army would need more than 2 months to complete mobilization due to more primitive transportation means,worse roads etc.
So what happened?The French been heavily pressed during the first two weeks by Germans begged the Tsar to start his attack on Pommern before his army was ready.The Tsar agreed to sacrifice thousands of his soldiers and two russian armies entered Prussia causing great damages to german infrastructure.The german marshall Pridvitc did not count that the Russians would attack before their full mobilization and after one not decisive battle he decided to withdraw his forces behind Wistula river ready to withdraw even behind Oder.
When he announced his objective to retreat so far to Kaiser,the Kaiser immediately requested his retirement and replaced him with Hindenburg sending divisions from western front to the East by train.Hindenburg later won the battle of Tannenberg and smashed the one russian army,however the chance to defeat France was lost for Germans cause the removal of these divisions striped them of the extra force needed to penetrate the western front.The Germans simply lacked the power for that.
