News / EU a beacon of light for the World to follow [85]

I agree with you. I am sure there will be an onslaught of negitive comments but I am sure you expected it Wroclaw Boy.India and China are set to be world powers and if Europe do not come together we will fall throught the cracks. And of course we are not one big happy family but we are not killing each other and have chosen co-operation instead.

I am from Ireland, what did the E.U. ever do for Ireland? (Life of Brian)

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

Poland and North America should learn from Ireland, Good auld fashioned Catholic schools, where sports and arts are the least of your worries, a strong hand and cane will toughen you up, and a good old fashioned molesting 3 times a week is good for the soul.

Religion 2 times a week, will tell you all you need to know about the world, how abortion is performed with a coat hanger, how Mary was a virgin, how you are all born sinners and you are all going to hell and not Dante's holiday camp 9 circle thing, I remember sex education, a woman had a big picture of a sperm and said " this is not a tadpole" with amazing effectiveness 40 kids simultaneously thought tadpole.

It never did me any harm, the hair growing on my tongue has nothing to do with it.

Real Estate / What is normal expectation for furniture from Polish renters? [10]

Hello bdo and KasiaG,
I agree with KasiaG statments.
I find generally Ikea is a good standard for furnishing a flat. It is in all the T.V. series here.
And make it clear that the deposit is to repair or pay for any damages and for cleaning if it dirty, but you know yourself if you rent to students you can't be too tough. I recommend letting to students who are in their 3rd or 4th year, they tend to be more responsibly.

You are on the pigs back if you get a private company to rent from you, it depends on the area etc...

Work / Scot going to Poland for work [13]

To feck with it, you are young and free, another alternative is work for a bit where you are and get ryan air or any of the other cheap flights over, the british pound goes a long way anywhere.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

The problem with all this is that the people who are most proud of their nationality are the ones who have least to be proud of as individuals. Those with the most enthusiasm will be the ones most ignorant about what it is they're actually celebrating.

Are you talking about national front?

Work / Scot going to Poland for work [13]

Hello Phil and welcome to Polish Forum.

Just out of curiosity why Poland?

I recommend that you do a T.E.F.L. (teaching English as a foreign language) course.
It will give you a basic qualification so you can teach english in most places in the world.

Learning a few polite words before you go to any country is advisable, hello, thank you, I don't understand, good bye etc.

You did not state where in the world you are from, I am from Ireland, so for me Poland is a big country and is very diverse, mountains in the South, the sea in the North and it is a matter of opinioun where it is best (in my humble opinioun Cracow and the mountains one hour away is the nicest).

And enjoy yourself, There is some beurocracy here but you could probably applie for a job from your own country, get then to organise a place to stay for you (Years ago they would even pay for your plane ticket)

If you have any further questions, I am sure that the people on this forum will help as much as possible.

Just a warning to the wise you will fall in love here, I did and I am very happy. You'll love it

Don't worry you can come to Poland work illegaly, slowly bring your family over live 5 familys in one room work for less than minimun wage and in squalid conditions and send the Zloty back to America and live like a king. It's the Polish dream, the streets are paved with gold

UK, Ireland / Fao Poles living in the UK [107]

about 3.5 million Irish in Ireland. 70 million Irish world wide.
The Poles are the new Irish. The Brits, well they are still Brits, this thread is as old as the hills.
