UK, Ireland / Recruitment agencies advertise for Polish only workers [162]

Agencies are wastes of space. I joined a couple to see how they worked and they were scummy pieces of turd. They must have wondered why I turned down all the jobs they put my way.

UK, Ireland / Irish Primary schools to teach Polish [223]

Split down religious lines, that's a worry but don't expect the handful of Irish posters here to agree with you.

RN, why this talk of religion? I thought you said that there wasn't such a clear divide.

French and German have been the mainstays but that doesn't mean that change can't come about. The net casting process is well underway. You can't say that the Irish won't have an affiliation with Poland and the Poles in the future. Poland has been active in many exchange programmes and part of this is facilitating linguistic development. Language is power. Knowing 3 languages has helped me. Even my French from school isn't completely redundant as there is a French teacher at the school I work for.

Expand their minds, RN, Cardno is right about this. Even if they don't become proficient, you are starting them at the right age and sowing seeds.

Job specification has become a more flexible art these days, RN. Some non-conventional requirements are clearly being met by Poles as they are hired quite often abroad. Many can turn their hand to different things and that stands them in good stead.

Careerist has a different connotation in Poland. They are not like the Americans or Japanese in this regard. They go through a rigorous testing process at Uni and then change direction abroad. I've seen and heard about this many times.

I wasn't the only one that predicted it, Mister H did just after me. Isn't it time that the traditional 3 foreign languages were expanded (French, German and Spanish)? Polish, whether some like it or not, is spreading its wings and linguistic spreading is a natural development as Poland looks to find its voice in the EU.

It's part of the bigger process of globalisation. Mark my words, stronger efforts will be made to link the EU to the US. Teaching Polish is natural enough if you consider the level of immigrants but it may appear as a plantation.

We had French and German for so long in Britain but very few actually went on to use it. Polish has the potential to be much bigger and Irish school pupils will be the better for it.

Money does tend to be the main motivation right enough. Cut that supply and things don't look so rosy. Still, don't you like the products they offer? They like stews in delis, bigos being the main one.

RN, another way of viewing it is that they provide choice. Many Scots are happy to have options like bigos and gołąbki, not to mention a range of fresh bread from Polish delis. They have set themselves up and are providing a service, nowt wrong with that.

The politicians are very much to blame. They have the classic 'I'm already Jack' mentality. These people claim for everything under the sun and let other Brits fight for their survival in the job market.

News / 14 year old rape victim from Warsaw denied abortion! [348]

The key point is that priests and the RCC, like doctors, are just people too. Many place them on a pedestal and this is where the accruing of power goes wrong. Gjene has just written a super post.

I have access to the same info as they do and am more than able to make moral judgements. I'll never let a priest decide for me. Priests are for the weak who need to be led. If you can't feel God around you then that's your issue but denying a 14-year old RAPE victim an abortion is just folly of the highest order!

Love / In your opinion, are most Polish women 'Easy'? [243]

Easy can soon become difficult. What I noticed at Polish dance clubs was that girls dance more for themselves most of the time. The guy is just there to make sure that she doesn't fall down after her having drunk a fair bit ;)

Agreed!

True on the first point, necessity is the driving force all too often.

The self conferral of bonuses really drives me nuts. It's just greed!

It's the other workers that run the show anyway.

I said it preaches that, Arien, not practises and therein lies the crucial difference.

There are many intrinsic and extrinsic factors connected with motivation, Arien, not just cash. Unfortunately, people are becoming more and more superficial.

True on the last point. Famine as a means of population control is a biggie. Anyway, can't digress.
