UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

Being British is more about stiff upper lips, crumpets on the croquet lawn and tweed

What absolute twoddle...if you hadnt noticed - its called "English" breakfast tea and not British.. We have English tea cakes, not British ones so I fail to follow your logic and actually when people refer to the drunkards they usually say "Brits abroad" !!!!...anyway best of British to you ;-)

English but then its probably a class thing.

I dont quite follow that...the saying is "an English Man's Home is his Castle" and not "a British Man's Home is his Castle"

It would appear that the "English" have lost their identity and feel uncomfortable with saying "I'm English", whilst the Welsh are feirsly proud and the Irish and the Scotish, it's only the English that are happy with the title "British"..

There is a small village in the North of England with one of my family names and that makes me proud to be English..

UK, Ireland / Will Polish names eventually become popular in the UK? [53]

Im still not convinced about the name Mohammed..you would never never get a white british kid with this name unless his parents were some crazy muslim converts...and to be honest a lot of Polish names (mens) can be broken down to English

Marek - Mark
Lukasz - Luke
Doggie - Greg

Im sure there are a lot more....Im quite happy with English/Scotish/Irish names to be honest, there is plenty of choice....but Im pretty old fashioned in that respect...like Daisy said its usually those of council estates that are looking for something "exotic" for their kid....

UK, Ireland / The Poles are Coming documentary [38]

Ofcourse, no one intervieuws the English guys and girls who DO want to take every job they can get, because that would make it all too painfully clear wouldn't it?

But that's media for you.

Arien, the point was, the jobs wouldnt be there if the English were doing them, point of the matter is and it's quite saddening, some people feel they are above a hard days work and why should they when they can sign on every week....we have created a monster in this country they are a new class called "chav" they feel that it is beneath them to work in fields and factories so fact of the matter is without the new labour farmers would have massive problems.

One of the Poles had two cars

That guy was acutally Lithuanian and not Polish - but I know what you mean, it really doesnt bode well, the work ethic of young men in this country leaves a lot to be desired..

UK, Ireland / The Poles are Coming documentary [38]

The points raised I found interesting and quite funny were:

When he was speaking to the guy in the car and said guy was saying how bad the area had gone - when asked if it was the Poles he said "no it’s the Brits the Poles are fine hard working decent people"

When he was in the British club thingy and a Ms Patel was saying that immigration should be stopped from European countries and she nearly said Asian countries too but stopped short.......hmmmm was I missing something there?

When he was outside the Job Centre and British scrotes seem to think they are above a hard days work - FFS - one of the foreigners who are steeling jobs was earning £2k a month....slightly above minimum wage I would say...oh and apparently Poles work for

50p

Whilst it was quite tongue in cheek in some parts, it certainly showed that without migrant workers we would have problems...

Im still wondering why they gravitate to that sh$thole Peterborough...yuk!

News / I love Poland because... (in 10 words or less) [182]

(why do I always get caught up in discussion with M-G anyways)

I ignore him these days, same as I would some silly prick in a bar who was annoying me... ;-)

I loved poland because it brought back memories of when I was child and how things used to be in the UK, lots of white weddings on a saturday and people dressed nicely coming out of church on a sundy - sometimes the simple things are the nicest....Poland is still like an inocent child...

Neither has my dad who fought in Northern Ireland. Neither has my uncle who also fought in Nothern Ireland

You mean they did tours there, probably sitting in an OP taking car reg's - I know plenty that did tours - no real combat, Im guessing they were there is the early 80s - The English soliders were not there to fight BTW!

That statement is remarkably stupid. Not even worth the bother

Honey, you need to read some history about what the English did to the Irish it would make you cry - a country was torn apart and destroyed.

F...king Hell ShelleyS !!! You're always on my side. I love you already!!

I suggest we get back on topic of this thread. We're moving from one topic to another.

I agree that we have problems with the services in this country because of the large numbers immigrating here - but I think you should look at the economic benefits from EU members - its the rest that are here for a free ride.....Its like Triptic said, in the 4 years he's been in here hasn't claimed a penny and that probably goes for the majority of EU members, who I may add probably dont have 4 / 5 kids each....the problem is not with those that have a right to be here, its those that dont have the right..

Maybe you should ask the Spanish how they feel about the large number of Brits that go over or maybe speak to the French or the Aussis?

Why? Because they're terrorists.

Im not going to get into an argument with you, because I dont really want to simple!

The IRA did what they did, right or wrong, I dont condone nor do I condemn...how many Irish lives were lost on Bloody Sunday? or down the H blocks? or in fact since British Rule?

There were different factions and it's all a bit messy to say who did what with regards to the IRA.

You can't help it mate....tossers are everywhere - regardless skin colour and nationality.

Sad, but true.

True....

is that mean: If immigration wouldn't be open to non-eu emigrants you wouldn't be as "happy" as you are right now about Poles?

I think in a clumsy way he is saying he loves Eastern Europeans and regarless he would love them :)

I'm 22 years old and I have a deep hatred of terrorists.

Why?

I was in Manchester the day the bomb went off, the IRA's main aim was to hit the pocket and not to take lives...there could have been 100's killed that day but that wasnt the aim. You have to read the history to appreciate the hatred and who can blame them, but thats in the past now and thankfully we have peace.

There havent actually been that many deaths on the mainland.

If you're going to go for an English girl I'd recommend NORTHERN English girls, I love them! There's a much higher ratio of stunning English lasses up North than there are down South .

Very true...

Lancashire boasts one of the highest proportions of territorial foods in the country (foods that are widely associated with an area). Lancashire holds claim to many of the best loved foods in Britain!!
