News / Poland boycotts German goods? [266]

I am not denying what you say is true, for I do not know enough history of the Russian or Polish language but I do find it hard to believe that a Guildford gentleman such as yourself, who according to your own profile does not speak the language and after only a few days in Warsaw, can have this sudden leap into calling the Poles thieves of the Russian language. It does not add up, perhaps you could elaborate on your allegations and make your point more clearly understood?.

Are polish pupils harming native british childrens education?

I am not a fully trained psychologist but it does not take one to see the under tone to Mr. noimmigration, read it again "Are @@@@@ Pupils harming native british Children (me)".

I could be wrong of course but then again.....
Sometimes noimmigration I think you almost have a valid point but then you just go and throw it all away.

Life / BEST SMALL CAR IN POLAND? [21]

Seriously? do you not think they are small and cute, and if one parks in your place you can just pick it up and move it. It is a perfect first car or student car. They rmind me of minis in a way.

Why do other people not like them???? That would surprise me. I always let them out and they are small enough to over take without any danger to anyone. AAAhhhh come on don't be so cold hearted.

Life / Customer Service in Poland, what are your experiences? [106]

Yet again I managed to set off the alarm while leaving a shop today, Zara on Marszalkowska. Immediately was pounced upon and asked to empty my bag at the till

This reminds me of the most popular Irish T.V. series on English T.V. "Crime Watch U.K.", they were always looking for a "Black man with a strong Irish accent"(silly buggers).

I am serious, I used to get constantly stopped and searched in London, anti terrorism act of 2000, if memory serves me correctly, Police state more like.

Driving over Londn bridge 7:00 a.m., in shops they would check to see if the money I gave them was not a forgery, if I didn't open me mouth then it'd all be fine but as soon as they heard I was from Ireland I was treated as a criminal.

I don't get any greif like that here, some times the complete opposite, if I set off an alarm and I start talking to the security or whatever, they become very nice and lets face it, they are only doing their jobs....;0)

UK, Ireland / Integrating Polish people into the British society [150]

Ha ha ha, We could sentenced them to one year of "Reeducaton Through Labour" like in China. Although this would further undercut the locals . Hhhmmm it is a tricky one...

I am of course just kidding, the way I see it is that most Polish people did not go to Ireland for the weather or the craic, they went to make money, save and move back to Poland. Most will probably not return but rather make lives for themselves somewhere else other than Poland.

Polish people should of course learn the language in which they are going to live, so this might be the first step.
I must say, that when I first came to Poland 6 years ago, very very few people spoke English now that there is a benefit in it, practically everyone who can learn, does.

Being able to speak the language is not everything I know but it would certainly clear up a lot of the miscommunication.

UK, Ireland / Integrating Polish people into the British society [150]

I am sick to the back teeth about people moaning about Polish people in this country. Thread after thread after thread moaning about immigration issues here clears absolutely nothing up, it just annoys people and gives a negative attitude about Britain.

If you think that is bad there, think of what it is like here, in Poland. Poland is just filled with Polish people. I mean I can't even walk down the street without bumping into several Poles, it is ridiculous but yet somehow it works, people are going to work and shopping etc..:)

News / Poland boycotts German goods? [266]

Because of Poland.'s geographical location

This makes sense, from thousands of years of trading and waring with other countries.

most of the Polish Language vocabulary was stolen from Russia

You sound as if you are just trying to wind people up with this one.

Anyway how do you know so much about Polish, if you do not speak the language?

Love / Advice wanted: meeting Polish girl for the first time [19]

Would this behaviour be out of place in Poland?

No, except it is three times here, twice on one cheek and once on the other (careful not to head butt). But only with people you know.

UK, Ireland / Integrating Polish people into the British society [150]

Britain is a multicultural society. There are immigrants from many places, not just Poland.

Yes there have been Brythons (including Romano-Britons), Anglo-Saxons, Danish Vikings, Bretons and Normans, they went over to our Islands, couldn't even speak Gaelic! And now they have the cheek to complain? some people, I tell you....tut tut tut

In Ireland, I am lead to believe that the Church has a huge part in in the Polish community.

News / Poland boycotts German goods? [266]

I have a question related to the topic.
Aren't most Polish words for tools actually German?
I was told this before, maybe because so many Poles worked in Germany and may be because good German quality tools are hard to beat.

News / Poland boycotts German goods? [266]

Is it true? is it a widespread boycott? What do you think about it?

There is a massive amount of German goods here and everyone buys them.
I would understand if Poles like Irish and many other nations wanted to push to buy things that their own counties produce but that is about it.

germans they are awesome engineers and products made in Germany are among the best in the world,

Yes, I don't think anyone would dispute German quility produce of being of the highest standards in the world.

Yes, I absolutely love it! miles and miles of forest and mountains, all the way to Slovakia, I think.
My house is the last on a cul de sac. and it is just forest all the way from here and mountain after mountain.
I want to go hiking with a tent and some food soon.

Travel / BIKING in POLAND [75]

I have just been on a four hour walk up the mountains (back garden) and there are loads of hikes and bike paths through forests and meadows just south of Krakow.

It was over cast today, so it was perfect weather for it. It is wonderful.
Part of my losing weight strategy, since I gave up smoking 6 months ago, I put on weight, I did not mind cause I was giving up but now's the time.

I should buy a bike but I want to buy a good camera, I broke my last one and I do hate to spend money on anything except for travelling.

Travel / Tips for driving in Polish cities [29]

Tip 234- The over taking lane does not exist, it is just another lane for you to go the same speed as the car next to you.

Tip 235- Drive up the rear of the car in front of you.

Tip 236- Just before coming in to two lanes, over take on the blind corner.

Tip 237- Turn THEN indicate.

Tip 238- Straight is great but bend is trendy, swerve in and out as much as possible.

Tip 239- If in a city be sure to accelerate like a lunatic and skid around corners.

Tip 240- Be nice to Maluchs (they are just too cute).

Tip 241- Forget everything you learned about parallel parking.

Tip 242- Remember it is not actually a car it is a mobile telephone box, so talking on the phone is more important than steering or breaking or any of that other "driving" stuff.

Tip 243- Pedestrian? what pedestrians?.

Tip 244- The speed signs do not tell the truth (except 30). The way to work out how fast to go is multiply what the speed sign says by two and then subtract 20.

Tip 245- Police radars do not work in incredibly bad weather conditions, this just means drive at break neck speeds.

Tip 246- remember you are the only driver on the road, the only one that counts anyway.

I live near Krakow and work here and in Lithuania and for the past three and a half years I have been driving up and down.

This is me venting, I have never had the opertunity before to say these things, for this I thank PF, I will add more.
On a more serious note, I have tryed to rationalise why there are so many dangerous drivers in Poland. I have come up with a theory, Basically before (in communism and just after) you couldn't buy a new car, if you did get a car it was certainly not fast and you were certainly not able to get it at a young age, so my theory is that now that a lot of people, especially young people can purchase cars, they go mad, have fun and well.... drive like nutters.

Agreed that it is 2008 and things are different now but I will put it another way, Think about a country's average time on the road, as in driving experience, Poland has very little.

I know I am picking on Poland but I have massive problems with Irish drivers too, nameingly they can drive on the roads without having a full license but this is a Polish forum

UK, Ireland / a trip to Dublin at Christmas? [30]

I just came back from Dublin. It rained all the time....
It is different for me I suppose because I am from there.
But like verything in this life it all depends in what you're into.
I also recommend getting out of Dublin, somewhere along the coast, it's all good!.
Just expect lots and lots of rain and talk of recession...
but a part from that the music and drink is flowing and if you are lucky and have some sun it is beautiful.
I prefer summer myself.
