Life / Having a Baby in Poland [28]

I gave birth in US hospital. It was really cool, friendly, smiling doctors, nurses, making jokes and you forget about the pain. The baby was with me in the same room, sleeping with me, nurses always checking up on you, giving the baby a bath every night, good food, excellent care, just really cool!!

In Poland they also provide good care but their attitude is different. They take everything more seriously but you should be fine. You're not the first woman in Poland to give birth, so if you have a good hospital you will be OK. Many women give birth at home with the aid of a mid-wife so don't worry too much. Poland has good medical equipment. Good Luck!

Yeah, some like when the fish is fried, others like it raw.
You're catching up to me by the way...

Life / Black people in Poland [357]

If they see you walking down the street with your hair and chains dangling from your neck and bell-bottom pants I think they will either run as heck, or throw a dagger at you - then run!!

Life / Black people in Poland [357]

Just like when a person goes to Africa. He will be either cast away or greeted with smiles.
A friend went on a safari hunt to Africa. The Africans knew he was from the US ( How could you miss it, he was white....) so they took advantage of it, charging him extra for rooms, meals and they even ripped a hole in the tent and stole a $5.000 gun.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

About point 3: When I was in Warsaw airport claiming my baggage this summer, Polish people push, they stand next to the carousel and will not let anyone stand next to them. They will stick their arms on their hips to take up more room. They complain it's moving too slow, it's moving too fast, the luggage is falling off, where is their's, they criticize other people, that they should be doing this instead of that, they are very nervous and griping about everything.

I've been to many airports around the world and Polish people are the rudest. They won't smile or nothing.
Just like they push in the tramwaj, in the bus, the same is when they drive. They have to cut in front of you, very anxious and nervous, always in a hurry.

Of course not all are like that. Just my observations from what I saw.

USA, Canada / American attitude towards Poland [89]

I know many Americans who have never traveled anywhere, they are happy with their own yard and don't care what is beyond their fence. Some are narrow-minded (like my "X") who go to bars after work, getting their education from other drunks, thinking they know it all.

And when faced with a problem or a situation not accustomed to, they lose their heads. Polish people constantly use their brains, thinking how to improve this or that, they can fix things themselves. In the US they call a "specialist" to do the thing they could do themselves, if they would ever try.

USA, Canada / American attitude towards Poland [89]

People from Poland are very welcome in the US. The city I live in US has a sister city in Gulcz, Poland and the University here always invites speakers from Poland to talk about Poland and their economy, culture, etc. The first Polish newspaper in America - Gwiazda Polarna - originated from the town I'm living in. Every year we have a Cultural Fest with different nationalities selling their goods and food. Poland is always a popular booth. In Milwaukee and other cities, there is a Polish fest every year serving Polish foods, music, dances. Chicago has one of the largest population of Poles and there are many, many Polish stores with imports from Poland. Śląsk, Mazowsze, Violetta Villas ( I got her autograph!) and other Polish singers and groups perform in Chicago and other larger cities throughout the US.

Poles are very much welcome in the US, they are known to be talented, hard-working, clean, intelligent people. Other nationalities who are also in the US are known as drug dealers and form gangs. I won't say which ones. But not Poland.

Life / Moving to PL - how much money needed for 6 months? [26]

People in the US are more honest than in Poland. For example, a guy in Poland sells his car. He will tape it up, fix what needs to make it look good to sell it, will convince you it's the best one etc. Then once it's sold it falls apart.

In the US people usually don't do that. You have a blue book and you know the price of the car. They do not barter as much as in Poland.

This Polish guy wanted to buy a boat on E-bay and could not believe that people here will buy and sell things based on words. When he bought a car he would barter with the seller for over 45 minutes!!! he was nit-picking at any little scratch just to pay less. I was there because I had to translate!!

And the seller just gave in.

News / Sending txt SMS via internet to Polish phones [6]

I just send texts from my phone (US Cellular) from US to Poland, but can't get any from Poland. I tried "Sprint" phones, and other local ones here, but they can't text overseas.

Language / How to greet the store personel in Polish? [8]

You can say regardless of who is selling:
"Poproszę o kopertę, papier w linię i długopis"

Life / What kind of toys are popular with children in Poland today [21]

I know. I have friends who live from pay-check to pay-check barely able to make their house payments. Like me. hahaha. Not funny.
Not everyone in America wastes, but that is the image it portrays to other countries. There are many homeless people who live in boxes, at least they don't get taxed for it. I think...

If you have a house you pay taxes, but if you have a mobile-home on wheels, then you don't. I know, because I lived in one of those once.

But we already know that Americans are wasteful.

Yeah, that's true. But they can afford it. If their pants or clothes have a hole in them, they throw it out. In Poland they will mend them.

If a TV breaks down, out to the dump it goes and get another one.
