News / Polish government punishes charitable givers [25]

I find it hard to believe.

Well, come to NYC and ask for yourself. Wroclaw is correct by saying that they need a place to live in order to be employed. Also, many jobs here in the US require you to have good credit.

Yeah lets form a police state and round up these people.. bring back stalin and hitler hmmmmmmmm

Not exactly what I had in mind. It would be for those who have been discouraged with finding a job and it would give them something to do. I talked with many homeless in NYC and 80% of them have told me the same story about constantly being turned down for work and they ed up giving up. So, with an opportunity to be given work every day for wages..and no not against will, can get them into a working habit again and boot their moral.

Maybe then we can rid our country of illegal Mexicans who use our health care.

Yeah, here people who get welfare have a second child to receive more $$ from the govt even though they can't even afford to eat themselves. Greedy bastards.

Once they learn the ropes it becomes easy for them. Free food, blankets, doctors, social workers, a place to go for a shower and more. There is little incentive to work.

This is very true. I see it every day in NYC. These people should be round up and put to work for the state/govt for low wages so they don't have to sit around and get used to it. Why overpay a state worker to paint lines on the streets, pick up garbage..general labor.

Yeah ok that was an intellegent statement. Thanks.

Opts, being in the US you know that we have many disabled veterans that don't get enough gov't support and have ro resort to handouts. How else would some of these people survive? I can understand what you're saying and I know that a lot of abled people are out there getting these handouts when infact they can work, but not everyone can.

News / This is horrible... Baby farm in Poznan!!!! [41]

so you trust someone who created this saying without even knowing who it was and why they said it

It's been areound longer than I've been alive. Yhis is the original “For the love of money is the root of all evil.” Timothy, 6:10. The phrase first appeared in English circa 1000 A.D.

This may be better "the root of most evil is man’s desire for status; either greed to increase one’s status, or jealousy over losing in the status game to others" :)

News / Polish government punishes charitable givers [25]

Warsaw, Poland October 7, 2006.
The Polish Government discourages charity. Furthermore, the Polish Government punishes those who try to feed the poor.

By way of example, if you own a bakery in Poland and at the end of each day you have excess production, the Polish Government expects that you destroy that production and not give it to Poland's poor people or an organization such as a church charity.

You are expected to fill out a form that shows that you destroyed the excess production. If you do not destroy the excess production, you must pay the value added tax on that excess production.

bhppc.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_bhppc_archive.html

If in fact this is true, does this really cause people not to feed thpoor? I can't imagine how they can keep track of everything.

it's not money that's the root of evil

....but most of it. Murders, theft, muggings, drug distribution, selling children....this list goes on. Sex would be next on the list.

CBS Investigation reveals "baby farm" in Poznan

Not even Pruszków had such a business concept, an investment bringing in profits within nine months.

"This might be called a baby farm," said a policeman from the Central Investigation Bureau (CBS). On Wednesday the CBS' Poznan office revealed the results of a terrible investigation, which shed more light on criminals using prostitutes for over three years. "When the girls became pregnant, their children were sold for adoption," said Ewa Olkiewicz from police division in Wielkopolska. After getting pregnant the girls were still selling themselves for money until their bellies could be clearly distinguished. Prior to the birth date they were sent to a clinic in Germany and afterwards the children disappeared, while the girls were sent back to Poland and received a small share in the profits. "A buyer could be anyone. It did not necessarily have to be a family wishing for a child. We have evidence that such children could be sold to pedophiles. And thus there are pedophile movies with babies [on the internet]," said Irena Dawid-Olczyk from LaStrada foundation.

For those that live in PL, was this big news recently? The article is from 21 sept

Life / Cell phone options in Poland? [55]

I've roamed on both and I think Plus has better service :)

this past visit I had no problems with orange. My GF uses ERA and she swears by it. I think most are ok..I hear that plus is a little more expensive, but I liked the network. Good luck on your search.

Oh they are very soft and so good. I think that you can only get these in Chłopy.
I've had Obwarzanki but I think that's closer to an American Soft Pretzel. The Gofry you can get all along the coast. I think it's belgian beacuse of the waffles.

Have you ever tried Sekacz or Pączki made with rose?

It's a homemade bread "fingerbread" made in Chłopy. It's made fresh every morning and brought home warm. It's sooo good. I'm not sure they bake it anywhere else.

Here is a pic:

or Gofry...another Baltic favorite:

No, it's not like a hot dog at all. It is a thin sausage though. Much closer to kielbasa as far as looks and textures goes, but as thin as a finger. Usually boiled.

Ever try paluchy?
