I'm not aware of him rigging any elections.

I'm afraid it was. Thats if you consider he runs the air waves and any opposision was not given a channel or the fact that if they tried to go out to get votes they were arrested.

Are you happy with Medvedev?

I think he is being swayed by Putin and should think about his people. There may still be hope for him if he stops trying to please Putin.

Putin is a blast from his past that will not take responsibilty. Instead he continues in the ways that keep Russia apart from the rest of Europe. This is just IMO.

that is why she was always have kicked by this boot

A bit boot licking would work wonders here too...

Are you joking, Polish do not lick boots and as I see it Germany is doing this with Russia.

True, Russia is just being smart

What takes place after Germany buddies up on the pipeline? BB don't you see change must take place (maybe by getting rid of Putin) before Russia changes their thought process.

behave and nobody will be cut off from anything and there won't be any problems!

LOL, you are talking to humans not animals. Celibrial cortex makes Polish remember, are you sure you are not part Russian?

You ARE already dependent on Russia...nothing it's going to change....you get the same gas from Russia as before!

You are right but lets face it the reason for the new pipeline that cost more is a direct insult to Poland. It has given the back door to Russia into EU and caused bs between EU members.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

I was just reading this and wanted to share. Some of the numbers are higher than was thought within the full story. Other than this it offers first hand accounts from Polish military that survived.

Often within this post it has been questioned "What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others?" as to how our military felt about being betrayed, fighting for others in a quest to remain free and this as well as dealings with Stalin's lies about Katyn as shown.

Masters of Monte Cassino

Total casualties for the Poles at Monte Cassino were 72 officers and 788 other ranks killed and 204 officers and 2,618 other ranks wounded. Five officers and 97 other ranks were listed missing. More casualties were added to the list when the Poles secured Piedimonte after making four attacks on the town over 20-25 May.

History / Katyn executioners named, protected by Russian authorties [35]

Is Russia stonewalling? Lets look at Polish demands. Asking for disclosure and the best place is the Hague Court.

Truth and its acceptance by the Russians is the only justice available to the
victims and Poland as a nation. This was murder that was ordered by the State and
signed off by every member of the Politburo. With our information and documents we need to demand that the crime be condemned as Genocide by the Russian Federation and by World Court.

Food for thought,

From what I learned the only way that we will finally reveal the full
story is when the Russians decide to de-Stalinize and de-
Leninize Russia. That is unlikely in the near future, since Russia is
in the hands of former KGB. When the Russians do that, the rest of Europe will no longer have to fear them. Until that time they will remain a feared outcast. Not to be trusted.

How sad for the ones seeking justice.

Russia high court ends Katyn massacre appeals
1 hour ago

MOSCOW (AP) - Russia's Supreme Court has rejected appeals to re-open the investigation into the World War II era massacre of Polish military officers and intellectuals by Soviet secret police.

The decision announced Thursday ends years of efforts by Polish families to get Russian authorities to re-examine the 1940 killings in forest near the city of Katyn.

Around 20,000 Polish officers, intellectuals and priests were killed by Soviet agents in the spring of 1940 near Katyn, now located in the ex-Soviet republic of Belarus.

The Soviet Union in 1990 acknowledged that dictator Josef Stalin ordered the killings.

In 2004, Russia's top military prosecutor closed the investigation after concluding that the massacre did not constitute genocide.

Not to mention that so called west does not have moral right to judge to Russia.

People have the right to judge other people reguardless of Slav status. Look at the judgement passed onto Nazi's (Stalin's insistence) and yet you can say Soviets should not be held to the same standard.

Katyn can`t be compared with for example that what Germany planed for Poland/Poles. Germany promoted absolute extermination of Poles (classical example of genocid).

"Germany promoted absolute extermination of Poles" as did Soviets.

News / Polish Parliament Backs Pension Reform, Overturns Veto [9]

Here is another article, I must aggre with this, "They should all face the Tribunal in Nuremberg".

Parliament slashes pension privileges of retired communist functionaries
Polish Parliament has passed a bill lowering old age pension privileges for retired functionaries of the communist regime, which ruled in Poland and repressed the Polish nation over five decades following World War Two. However, many remain skeptical if justice has really been done.

'The communist state had the appearances of a legal system, just like the Nazi state. Employees of the secret police received salaries, paid taxes. However, the duties and practices of communist secret policemen in Poland were similar to the duties and practices of the Nazi SS. Therefore, honoring retired communist officers with pensions is not right. It is not just. And they receive pensions several times higher than their victims. Now, taking away the pension privileges is a symbolic step towards justice. But in my opinion, we should not pay them anything. They should all face the Tribunal in Nuremberg,' says Cejrowski.

For logistical reasons, the bill, which concerns an estimated number of thirty thousand former communist functionaries, will come into effect with the beginning of 2010.

All archives on Katyn case transferred to Poland, Russia's FSB says

It seems we are moving in the right direction.

Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation transferred to Poland all the documents avaiable concerning the Katyn case, execution by the troops of the Soviet People's Commissariat of Interior of 14,000 captured Polish officers in 1940, news agency Interfax reports.
However, as the head of Department of registration and archival funds of the FSB of Russia, Lieutenant- General Vasily Khristoforov noted, the most part of the archives on Katyn events had been destroyed back in the 1950s.

It was all Polish that were to cleaned out when Poland was first attacked. This changed to Jewish when Nazi's went after Soviets. This leads to the question of the number of Jewish Soviet military.

fall of communism in Poland. Can anyone help me in this matter?

I thought you might find this of interesting.

Polish Spy Was Secret CIA Hero

Faced with a growing dissident movement in 1981, the communist government in Poland declared martial law. The U.S knew it was coming, because a Polish army officer named Ryszard Kuklinski had secretly leaked the plan to the CIA. For nearly ten years, Kuklinski was the CIA's top spy in the Soviet bloc.

This week, the agency marked the anniversary of Polish martial law with a program in Kuklinski's honor.

History / Katyn executioners named, protected by Russian authorties [35]

It seems rewards for "drivers, typists and ordinary soldiers" involved took place. We must stop allowing Russia to say it was not them it was the Soviets actions. As Russia protects the criminals.

Researcher Nikita Pietrov has got hold of a list of officers of the NKVD - a forerunner to the KGB - who participated in the Katyn massacre, where up to 22,000 Polish officers were murdered in prison camps and forests in Russia.

The head executioner turns out to be the then 45-year-old Vasilij Blochin. Making his first kill of Russian dissidents in 1927 he went on to execute people regularly for the next 29 years, causing the death of an estimated 50,000.

YES you could, simply do not take your pen out and sign off on something that does not concern you or belong to you.

Great points Piorun, One issue that seems to be avoided is the fact that without US backing Stalin was not this big threat. One thing I'll give "Stalin", he was a master at manipulation.

Filios had a point when he said that talking to Russia may have yielded better results

Talking to Russia when?

Poles need a reason to complain?

The way I see it the Polish have been silenced by "communist" control for far to long. The worst part is that now that they are free, many have already passed away. This is why today the number of ones speaking out are the children of the actual victims. We also lived with our families past due to how it affected them.

After my research in our history my heart sunk learning the way my loved ones were treated. My first thought was, "no one can treat my Dad/family like that". Well yes they can, in fact they did and it's a crime that they (Soviet military)were never held accountable for.

Do I blame Britain for not doing enough? Not the Britain of today, no I do not. I do place blame on the false promises, lies and the fact we were betrayed. Not just on Britain but US, Russia, Germany, Ukraine amonst others. I firmly believe in order to have peace in the future, the "full true history" must be in the books. Not just the pretty versions that makes everyone feel good about the actions they are responsible for.

How can I make you understand, only the pilots is not,

Poles were invited to the London parade!

Just the pilots of 303, they refused to march without their comrades of the army and navy.

myth has been exposed as a lie

We are talking about facts that Britain is aware of, if you get a chance you should read this as it gives back ground.

when in May, as I recall, some of us heard and red in papers, of the forthcoming Victory Parade. Quite frankly, we accepted it with a proverbial "shrug of shoulders" - THEY will not invite US anyway. Hadn't we fought for that victory? We wanted to go but the invitation was not forthcoming. And then, a week or so later, a slap in the face - only the pilots who took part in the Battle of Britain were to be invited. Stunned? No. Surprised? Not quite, for almost a year now, we went through "Polacks this, Polacks that ". Despite all this disappointments, incredibility, and all that, some of us felt, that there was some kind of reason for British acting in so "un-gentlemanly" way. Though by then, every Englishman was a S.O.B. in our eyes, some still looked for bright sides. Those invited refused the invitation and stated without hesitation: contingents representing each service or none at all. And so, none it was.

You mean the one that free Poles were invited to despite the claims of the Plastic Poles.

What free Poles, lol, are you still thinking the ones under communism were "free"?

Give it up with the "plastic Poles", plastic refer to credit cards and it looks like you are saying Polish person using credit. ;)

The chances of anybody actually choosing to spend three and half months during Polish winter down the sewers rather than in a PoW camp point to Carol's statement being yet another Plastic Pole myth.

Say what, why would the Polish need to be placed as POW's we were allies. Outrage was how they described the British when they learned of this. So much so they went back to planning the parade. I don't recall "war crimes" being a charge placed on the one giving orders, Stalin?

I must say, this is news to me.
REVEALED, HITLER'S PLAN FOR 'DART BOMB' RAIDS ON BRITAIN
In the final months of the conflict, Hitler's generals needed Luftwaffe pilots prepared to carry out highly risky missions over Britain.

The idea was that a pilot would steer a dart-shaped glider carrying a huge bomb.

The glider, also containing an enormous balloon, would have been released from a larger aircraft before diving at its target at speeds of up to 700mph.

At the last second, the pilot would have released a one-ton bomb and inflated the balloon.

Look you are catching on. They were anti communist and Stalin could not stand this part of Russian history. Ponder this Harry, If Russia was able to take Poland would they have stopped, no they would have continued to Germany where the military was depleted and not ready to respond.

Let us not forget Stalin's military that never could handle having there butts kicked.

Who ever kicked their butts?

of course you would have us believe that it was Stalin's army in 1921.

Well, they might have differed about what the Poles thought they "deserve" to have...
Hitler promised to make things right against...people believed him, nobody else gave a sh'it!

Actually come to think of Poland was the big winner in both World Wars... after the first one they got their state gifted to them plus german lands, after thes econd one their border moved further west inclusive even more german towns and lands...my you of all should be glad, shouldn't you but still you are moping all the time..

On the German's that remained faithful to Hitler I was watching a show about a week ago and London has released tapes that were secretly taping POW's in Britain. Anyway, to make a long story short, the Generals spoke of not believing in the cause but due to the early 30's Hitler gave them promotions to "Generals" with heafty raises, they spoke of how they felt they could not turn on him because of this. Very interesting and the tapes should be on line soon. Funny how this material is surfacing. Hummm maybe they will next release Sorkowski's investogations.

As far as being Polish being big winners, I don't this so. Stalin took Polands property and paid his tab with German property. Lets not forget the ones in "Kresy" he slaved, "Katyn" killed. So the way I see it who really made out seeing as how in the end he took all of Poland. All this time Germany has been paying for the deaths also inflicted by Soviets.

It wasn't so much a land issue as a human rights issue.

No way the Polish knew what Stalin had done in the East and con't to do while calling himself an ally. BS in the Warsaw 1944 as Polish made there's way out of the sewers to escape, Stalin had his military, our ally's waiting and shooting us as we can out. The Soviet military were shot if they even sujusted helping. Familiy's like mine knew Stalin would kill my Grandfather who was an outspoken about anti communism. We point fingers back and forth about who stopped from helping Poland in the rising, it was Stalin that used his power to have Polish exterminated, just as Hitler and Stalin had planned.

they've got a pair of tits.

How's that for class. I never asked for "protection" but the fact that any one in here would need to speaks for itself. Go back in the posts and read the usage of foul degrading, non related responses. There's no need and it just lowers the standards. We can all name call and swear but theres limits. Maybe eye to eye conversations would help as you could see the hurt words cause. We are not just "tits", we are caring people that have real feelings.

Harry get off your "Polish Passport" bs, it's nothing but a piece of plactic. Did you loose your Grandmother, uncles, aunts along with other family? Do you really have the right to speak for the Polish Goverment? You see Poland was full of "Polish Communists that many Polish felt were not "true Polish".

The 'little ladies' are entitled to have their opinions challenged like everyone elses.

Challenged is one thing, name calling and insulting, rude reply's. I'm sorry this is not called for.

WE'VE BLED THE POLES DRY NOW WE INTEND TO CAST THEM ADRIFT

When Britain wanted a piece of Poland, to have and to hold, this told how much we were respected.

I however have no such trepidation.

Thank you, you are indeed a gentleman. :)

Yes you are a classic Plastic Pole. You are the grandson of a true Pole but you think that you are Polish. You’re not. You are an Australian (and congratulations on your racism, it must stand out even in Australia).
Personally I have no connection at all with Poland. I mean, I’ve only lived here for 13 years. How many days have you spent in Poland in your life? Fewer than 13?

It is comments like this that make my "Polish blood boil". I do thank God you are not Polish. Maybe you should look at how many true Polish lost the homes to war. It must really scare you that we are speaking out and demanding history be accurate. Just think if you degrade us enough we may get scared and leave, then the slander could continue. I don't think so. Harry, deal with it, we are here to stay and tell our family history.

Krakow and light candle at the following graves.

I don't see an issue with the condition of the graves as the photos show. Not all the ones buried here, died fighting in this location.

At the end of the Second World War, the graves service of the British Army of the Rhine gathered together Commonwealth graves from all over Poland into three cemeteries, this being the largest. Those buried here died while prisoners of war during the German occupation, most of the graves coming from the cemetery at the large camp at Lamsdorf, Stalag VIIIB (after 1943 known as Stalag 344), where there was a hospital of 450 beds used only for Commonwealth prisoners.

cwgc.org/search/cemetery_photos.aspx?cemetery=2016900&mode=1

Just because they were sent here, they were captured in many locations and transported to this location. Here is a sory of one man that was fighting in France.

He left his wife who was by now pregnant to go off to fight in France.

My Grandad - John Jeffers was one of the unfortunate ones who was caught by the Germans. He was sent to Stalag VIIIB which was later replaced by Stalag 344 (see the map below

I put this link because it has some great photo's.
