History / Katyn - the Polish movie [29]

I have just watched it.

It is grate movie.

So my opinion :

Firstly, Waida used clich which I really love ;)

Secondly this movie shows Polish reallity in '39 - '46

I m really glad that Wajda hasnt made movie like M Gibsons "pasion" so we dont have to much blood what is really good. We have more sublimated fight in peoples minds ... ehhh :) I m really proud that my ansestors were on right side this time ...

I've read few reviews of that movie and the opinions were rather negative.

Oh yes especially opinions of people who have oficers of "armia ludowa" in their families.

It is movie about Katyń which shows not only extermination of our officers but situation of their families, German- Russian cooperation, propaganda , and situation of our society ...

In my opinion this the way we should go, If we want to show our history, our values, our way of thinking, our choices. I m really glad that this movie isnt pathetic but realistic.

I m really impressed.

want to see that movie really badly. has anybody have an idea when we will be able to get it or see it in us?

I m 100% sure there will be DVD version.

Travel / What are Your Best Poland Travel Tips? [64]

Will I need to do a currency exchange? Is Poland on the Euro system? Are US dollars widely accepted? Accepted at all?

you have to sell $ and buy PLN (zloty), you will do it without any problems.

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

Really? its abit like the English supposedly dont get on with the scottish but my mum and dad still got marrid and had 3 kids...and one of them was me !!

I just wanted to show, about what we debate in Poland.

What is more gay parades which were very controversial at the beginning (stoped, baned, contr-manifested), this year were calm and succesful for gay/lesbian society in Poland. What you should notice: there are huge differencies in way of thinking betwen others parts of Poland and it is important as well ....

Its not about respect. Poland isn't as poor as those countries you mentioned..

and it is all I wanted to show

in international rankings Poland scores about 50 (give or take 10 - too lazy to look it up) out of 180 plus countries.

I think much better especialy in those form 2006/2007

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

as to opinion pools

there was a question If gay should have the right to marry another gay

and answers
defiantely yes
rather yes
rather no
definately no
I dont know

so in Poland the debate is rather about their status in society, than if it is normal/sick ...

Yes it is sick, but shows the situation in your country.

Well, let it be so, but we are bigger, and this fact is indisputable

Agree, russia is bigger and has more influence on world than Poland ... but it is better to be Polish citizen than Russian

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

yes you have mor money but life in poland is changing and at the moment there is love and peace. values and ethics.

they have more money as whole country, when we count it per person (per capita) they are poorer ...

Take China and Luxembourg, Chia has more money but as a whole coutry, when we count it per capita/per person they are poorer.

So we have better wages/salaries, we have bigger GDP per capita ... forget about them :) ... Now we should concetrate to beat Germans in this stats :)) and we are on good way

with so much corruption in poland there is no comparison.

yes but we notice this fact ans try to fight against cooruption, and I feel changes, In Russia they dont see the problem and it is their problem :))) ... so we are on good way in this case as well

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

Ok, there was huge difference between Churchill and Roosevelt. Churchill wanted good (more or less) for Poland and Roosevelt just wanted to bring to light Yalta just after elections to not lost votes of Polish Americans.

What is more Churchill wanted to invade Greece instead of Italy so allied armies could be in central Europe ... Stalin and Roosevelt were against ... So Yes I agree Roosevelt was F*****

Roosevelt in Yalta (I agree) helped for Stalin, not for Churchill ...

So Roosevelt was the worst form those 3 leaders. Stalin was our enemy and he did what he wanted, Churchill was trying to help but all in all he didn't (in some cases he could really help) , Roosevelt could help, pretended to be friend but all in all cooperated with Stalin.

News / Polish Election Poll (according to PolishForums) [237]

hat obviously (by anology) mean that one day- Turks would be promoted as Polish biggest friends and Poland would be open for Turks and closed for Slavs. Then, by standards of so called West, Poland would start to be considered as Western and modern.

In XIX - XX century Turkey gave place to live for our refugies, they could cultivate our religion and were trated fair, so we help them now ...

Life / Why do poles drink & drive? [82]

Hi lukaszthis is interesting. would you say that your drinking habit is represenative of the polish drinking culture in the uk?

I just wanted to notice that my drining habit can be representative for most of Poles, we dont drink alcohol everyday or every weekend but when we drink ... ;-)

all in all in alcohol ligue we are bottom - mid table ;)

As to UK I live in Poland I have been to London but as a turist so I dont know ...

his is not good for your liver, or your body overall, alo you are reduicng the capacity of yourmind. in th elong run this will back fire.. act now dont delay

I think that I will delay ;) thank you for advice :)

As to behavior of people in forigin countries, I have noticed that English people in London behave more cultural than English people in Krakow ...

So maybe it is the same factor.

History / Polish resettlement camps in Britain 1945 [82]

Ok, I can agree with statement that the best for Poland was to accept German proposal : Germans takes Gdańsk and Jews, we take part of Ukraine they take rest, and Poles are equal race, and we would be on winers side for sure ... But we had different values.

Yes I agree we have to move on , and we do it. You can look on negotiations about EU constitution (I dont like the style but all in all I like that we fight for what we want). In my opinion we should be more assertive in contacts with USA (Iraq Afghanistan)...

That is all, I just wanted to say that this part of our history ('39-'52) is bitter...

I wanted to be quiet, but I just cant stand this British ignorance.

istahu, RED ARMY occupied Poland comunist wouldnt have a chance to win elections without murdering together with soldiers of RED ARMY thousents of people, just after the war.

Churchil sold Poland for Stalin, Stalin who invided Poland in '39 Stalin who occupied Poland to '41 together with Hitler Stalin who murdered our oficers in Katyń and it was well know fact.

You try to pretend that Churchil could belive for Stalin that he will be ok, but there were well known facts like Katyń or '39. He just pretendet that he belived that Stalin was "ok", he pretended because it was in UK business. The same as now It was easier for Tony Blair to see "true democrat" in Putin eyes, than murderer form Cheuchenia, because it was in your business.
