History / Some names to the faces of brave Poles during WW2 German Invasion [24]

It is long, heartbreaking, and yet you can see that Poland was filled to the brim with Martyrs, during the German Invasion and Occupation during WW2.

I've read about half way through. Some of what I have read was pretty harrowing.

History / WWII planes in Poland [38]

I did hear of someone in Poland actually rebuilding a fully functional and flying replica of a P11

That would be great. Have to keep an eye/ear out for that.

40 South African pilots

Yes, South Africans, also British, Americans and Poles.

Came across this article a while ago about a crew from South Africa.
They flew a Liberator.

History / WWII planes in Poland [38]

Museums are nice , but are there plane junk yards?

Don't think it would occur to me to think of a museum as a junk yard.

It's always great to see a plane such as a Spitfire fly past and to hear the magnificent roar of it's engine.

I would love to hear what a PZL11 sounded like.

History / How long was Poland "lost in history"? [21]

This should explain the hardships rather well, from WW1
Sacrifice

Thanks for info on WW1. I havn’t come across much info on Poles during WW1.

The website based on the book, " Political History of Poland" written by E.H. Lewinski-Corwin and published in 1917, mentions about 2 million Poles who fought as part of 3 foreign armies fighting on opposite sides.

I believe this episode is called The Germans, as there is a group of Germans staying at the hotel. Hilarity ensues.

I wasn't going to mention the War.

Genealogy / Last name "Klinko" [7]

'ko' it is very likely that it is of Ukrainian origin

Is that always true?

I had a step uncle whose name also ended in 'ko'. I guess somewhere in the past there must have been a Ukranian connection.

been told that my family name is Polish

As far as I know my uncle condsidered himself to be Polish.
