Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

I'm an american man and hate TV and football. Don't generalize...geez

Sorry, but that's been my personal experience and that of my sisters as well. It is very difficult to imagine anything different at this point...I'm working on it though.

I'm trying to find what my parents have.....still looking. I think there is a "disposable" attitude toward marriage in this country that Poland does not have because of the influence of the church and the family values.

Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

That's not the kind of selfish I'm talking about, silly man!

I mean: no help with children, or house when both work, watching TV all the time-no couple time, forgetting birthdays and anniversaries, and generally not being "present" in the relationship. :(

Doesn't sound like you have that brand of selfishness! :)

Oh and if an American man was presented with the choice of learning Tantric sex or watching football, which do you think he would choose? Think very carefully now...

Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

All of us (except one sister who is not married) has one child each.

The sad thing is, all of us (except my brother) has been divorced. We all had the misfortune of finding some of the most selfish, "me" oriented American men on the planet! :(

I like the Polish value system much better.

Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

My grandparents and great grand parents were from huge families. Same thing that you mentioned though, high infant and child mortality rate was prevalent. I can't imagine losing two or three children to illness....I don't know how they endure that kind of pain.

Another interesting note; I have Kelley's on both sides of my Mom's family, that were not at all related, but living in the same county!

Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

We lived on a farm, and I am the oldest of five, but not Catholic!

Yes, I did my fair share of labor....loading planters, hauling hay, feeding pigs and cows, and working in our huge garden!
But it was a great way to grow up...wouldn't trade it for anything :)

Life / The whole Polish joke thing. [13]

Here is a joke that I like:

What does a Polish bride get on her wedding night that is long and hard?

A new last name!

Love / Polish Attitude Towards Tantric Sex (& Family Planning) [46]

Ok gentlemen, there is a little bit more to this....

There is more than one kind of tantric sex, just as there are different forms of yoga that can be praticed. This is something that takes time, preparation, and energy to study. It requires a lot of discipline and the ability to delay gratification (probably why it isn't more popular). The idea is to channel energy, using sex, to create a heightened spiritual experience.

There is a left path and a right path. Left path is a little bit dangerous. Awaking the kundalini force can really unbalance a person, even to the point of what looks like insanity. It can also cause physical probelms: inablity to regulate body temp, feeling of electricity looping through body, seeing what is in front of you and behind you at the same time...you get the idea.

If you are planning to embark on this study, find a teacher (a guru) like you are supposed to do. Don't try this without supervision.

I would ask a priest whether or not this is allowed (I'm not Catholic, so I have no idea), but wouldn't a priest be the "expert" on the Church?

Life / Polish Literature-Czeslaw Milosz [11]

Anyone seen the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" with Diane Lane? (one of my very favorite movies :))
She buys a old run-down villa in Italy and renovates it. The construction work is done by three Polish men, one of whom is an uncommunicative literatura professor. Diane's character, Frances, tries to intiate a conversation with them, by showing him a book by CM.

One of my my favorite lines in the film, something like "the fact that I am trying to learn Polish, in Italy, is just one of the many ironies"

I think the only true Polish actor is the young man who plays "Pawel".

If you have not seen this, go get it and watch it, and think about me :)
My heart is in this film. I need a whole box of Kleenex to get through it. Yeah, I know...Chick Flick!

Daffy, if you haven't seen this, watch it with your gf the next time you are together!
Cheers!

Language / "Whatever" used as slang - Polish equivalent? [29]

To me "whatever" is a response to someone in conversation when you know that what you are saying is not being heard or accepted, and there is no possibilty of negotiating/communicating further on the topic.

This is likely to be in a situation where you are dealing with some authority figure.
Saying "whatever" acknowledges what has been said to you, while also showing that you do not agree with it.

Kinda like how you guys react to Admin! :)

Travel / Beware the peacocks at Lazienski Park in Warsaw [36]

We have very agressive ground squirrels, in a specific area, because tourists feed them and they have become habituated.

Unsuspecting persons, sitting and having a snack, can have squirrels practically jump in their lap in hopes of a nibble.

It's a bad thing because often children have been bitten on the hand. There are signs posted instructing the tourists to avoid feeding animals--it is punishable by a fine, but they don't care. So now the squirrels are a pesky problem. And some of them carry a plague-a type of bacterial infection, so if you are bitten, you have to go to the clinic and get a shot.

Keep the "wild" in wildlife! :)

Life / Polish Literature-Czeslaw Milosz [11]

I am interested in familiarizing myself with some Polish Literature, especially by Czeslaw Milosz (in English at this point).

Could anyone recommend a particular title as a good starting point? I think I would like to try some fiction, first, then some history. I understand that his writing covers several genres.

I appreciate any suggestions :)

Oops, I spelled last name wrong....should be Milosc!

Doesn't anybody read classic literature?

Love / Why me? (made an idiot of myself at the club - the tall Polish man was married:) [90]

Quoting: shopgirl
"The Sceret

there is no such law... trust me.

"The principle which gives the thought the dynamic power to correlate with its object, and therefore to master every adverse human experience, is the Law of Attraction, which is another name for love. This is an external and fundamental principle inherent in all things, in every system of Philosophy, in every Religion, and in every Science. There is no getting away from the law of love. It is feeling that imparts vitality to thought. Feeling is desire and desire is love. Thought impregnated with love becomes invincible."

-Charles Haanel

LS....you don't have to believe in gravity either, but it still exerts its influence! :)

USA, Canada / Shootings in America; over 30 people shot [52]

The big question that usually arises from a school shooting is "where did the assailant get the gun". Usually it is from home, or a friend/relative. Doesn't anyone lock these up!

March 98 Jonesboro, Arkansas
11 and 13 year old cousins lure students outside w/false fire alarm and open fire, after one of the boys was jilted by a girlfriend. 27 shots fired, 4 girls and a teacher killed.

May 1998 Oregon
15 year old kills 2 classmates and his parents. Says voices in his head instructed him.

April 1999 Littleton, CO
Klebold and Harris kill 12 other students, a teacher, and then themselves in a detailed, carefully planned assault.

April 1999 Taber, Alberta
14 year old shoots 2 students with a 22 rifle, killing one and wounding the other.

May 1999 Conyers, Georgia
15 year old opened fire at school with a 22 rifle, shooting 6 people. Boy was taking medication for bi-polar disorder.

November 1999 Deming, New Mexico
13 year old boy shoots 13 year old girl in back of head in a school lobby. Girl was hospitalized and later was taken off life support.

March 2000 Mt. Morris, Michigan
6 year old boy kills 6 year old girl after a playground scuffle. Boy found gun at home, with 3 bullets inside.

None of these incidents should have ever happened. There are many reasons why they did. Availability of guns, lack of supervision (parents have the responsiblity to pry into their kids business!), ignoring warning signs, violence on television-video games-movies, lack of education so teachers know what to watch for in potential assailants, lack of ample school security, and the list just goes on.....

Language / Polish equivalent of "bon Appetit"? [4]

I love how Polish sounds. Sometimes a word gets stuck in my head and I say it over and over, just because I like the pronunciation (yeah, I know that's wierd....and I'm OK with it!) I love "zadzwonic" (to call). :) Smacznego sounds like another good one. :)
