Why don't you get yourself a red hot convertible?

tempting....a nice Ferrari dino would be great , but not sure it would last so long on Polish roads around my place....a Hummer would be more suitable here....Oh and i forgot to include horse riding among my fun things to do...not an expert at that either , but manage to stay on most of the time....

Life / What do you do for fun in poland? [15]

Riding my Harley on a sunny day , camping in the forest , canoeing down the river , walking across the fields , enjoying a beer and a barbie with friends , ploughing through wheel deep mud in my 4 x 4 , cycling along the quiet tracks along the lakeside , watching the wild animals close to my home , taking photos of the pretty parts of Polska ,and when i get the chance , learning to fly a plane....but sometimes its just nice to sit in my quiet garden and watch the world go by , not that much of it passes my place....

A love of nature?

Yeah , that was part of it....My first visit to Polska was in 1997 during a long journey to Belarus and Russia via all the Baltic states....Poland was just some place to rest a few days on route , the halfway point between UK and Belarus...but during a walk in the forest at 4am in the morning ( yep after driving 48 hours nonstop i could not sleep) i looked up at the millions of stars in the sky and felt a feeling of belonging i had not felt before....all very romantic , but thats how it was...i decided i would come back one day to live here....and despite the odds being against it...here i am...Yes i feel a bit of a recluse , but i can cope with that....I remember when that guy walked alone across the arctic , some body said to me how can anyone do such a thing completly alone for all those weeks....well i knew how...i could do such a thing,,,its not being a loner , i guess its being able to talk to yourself a lot....

UK, Ireland / Something to take to Poland from UK to sell... [47]

chop shop?

Well i have a Harley...but its not a chopper....but yes , plenty of room here to store a few motors , mind you i think it would be better to sell the whole car to anyone wanting bits , and i could probably find a mechanic who could convert right hand drive to left hooker , but that might make the car not such a bargain price , and the Poles might have problems getting it passed the mot if converted...probably better i just find a local garage willing to take the cars for cash and then break them for parts....I have done the breaking myself , its a pain...some parts sell really quickly , but you end up with a yard full of skeletal remains , and have to wait sometimes a while to get your money invested back...Better i think sell the whole car , let somebody else get stuck with the crap....Mind you , saying that , scrap metal is worth money in Poland , and much easier to get rid of...not like in UK where you have to pay to get rid of a dead car...PM me for my email address....

UK, Ireland / Something to take to Poland from UK to sell... [47]

I reckon you will make more money buying certain makes of car in the UK , then selling them in Poland for spare parts....A friend of mine in Poland needs a new engine for his bmw , i could buy the whole car in UK for much less than its going to cost him for parts in Poland....i see a market there....!

Travel / Advice for English guy on travel in poland; is it safe to travel alone? [3]

I have been to many places alone , in Poland , Russia , latvia , Lithuania , Belarus , Ukraine...never had any real problems due to me being English...Of course there are drunken idiots all over the world , that might want to start trouble with somebody for no good reason , but i would say that in Poland people are better behaved after a few drinks....Come on over , you will love the place , and most of the people are very friendly....

Life / Polish Police - my bad experience. [33]

Crossed paths with the Polish Policja a few times as a proffessional truck driver , motorist , and Harley rider , never had any problem with them , i was polite to them , they were just fine with me...When i first came to Poland i was not aware of the requirement to carry all your documents on you at all times , got stopped a few times , and they could have given me a fine , but they didn,t , so no complaints from me there....On the other hand , when some stuff got stolen from my farm the Policja were unable to arrest anyone , despite me giving the name of the bandits , and their address....Fortunatly being a member of a Polish motorcycle klub meant there were other ways of seeing justice done....

Life / WHERE CAN I FIND THIS POLISH SONG...? (Maryla Rodowicz) [10]

My usual tactic when visiting the kids home was to disapear in the night so the kids didn,t have to see us leaving , but on this occaision the staff had made us a goodbye English breakfast , so we just had to be there....After this a group of girls gathered to sing this song , and of course the younger children realised we were going back to England....first the children began to cry , then the staff , then our group started to cry too...it was a special moment....its nice to hear the song again...

Life / WHERE CAN I FIND THIS POLISH SONG...? (Maryla Rodowicz) [10]

Not so long ago , myself and a group of friends with Landrovers were preparing to leave Poland after spending a few day with the children of a state home near Lobez that we had delivered aid to....As we prepared to leave the children sang us a song to say goodbye , very moving it was , even for a heartless old git like me....I have whistled this tune to many Polish friends , and at last i think i have a name for the song....I am told its Maryla rodowich , but that sounds like a persons name , not a song name....anyways , anybody know where i can download the song , as it has special memories for me.....thanks....ps it would be even better if somebody can tell me the meaning of the words in the song....
