UK, Ireland / Flooding in Northern England [74]

There are even detector vans that go round detecting whether you are watching TV - seriously !!!!

it's true

This has to make the BBC very very wealthy

It makes the executives very wealthy, and one of them is also an executive of the Government department I work for, talk about jobs for the boys :(

I understand though that there may be further flooding down South over the weekend ?

it is absolutely tipping it down right now. I popped out of the office Thursday lunchtime to go to the shops next door, the rain was so heavy I was literally soaked to the skin, my shoes were squelching. I had to sit at my desk dripping wet, i think it's why I've got a cold now.

I miss the news though

there's always the BBC website

true, it's rare there's anything worth watching, I think I only watch the news, oh and most haunted :)

I'm in the North West and the effect has been minimal where I am, so it must be hard for people in other countries to understand the devestation the flooding has caused in some areas of the UK.

that's true, I'm not affected personally, but it's on my local news every night

Are you cross with me ?

No, I was agreeing with you :)

I hear that there's looting going on. Are these people looting for food or crime? Is it that bad? Like Katrina/ new orleans scale?

According to the police that has been exagerated, but people were looting from the abandoned houses that had been flooded, loading up vans with furniture. Personally I think they should be publicly flogged

Thing is Daisy posted details of the Red Cross......any money donated,if not used in the UK will go to help other countries as well.

I see both sides........

The Red Cross don't get paid, they are doing a lot of hard work helping people voluntarily

Just heard on my local radio this morning that water bills are going to rise because of the floods.

If people want to donate, the red cross are taking donations

News / Polish religious pilgrims crashed coming back from a pilgrimage [62]

So bus passengers die and its all about your feelings?

no, it's not about my feelings, don't be so condescending. Those people died needlessly and in a horrible way. Anyone with an ounce of humanity could not look at the images of that burnt out bus and not feel for the people who died that way, 3 of them were children.

the humanists, athiests and agnostics offer empty plattitudes into the air - Take your pick.

this is what pi$$ed me off 'empty platitudes' from where I am looking you are taking the moral high ground.. I find it offensive that you regard the geniune feelings of people who do not believe in a higher being as empty, I find that bloody offensive

Very hard to find words, I did hear about it on the radio last night.

It would appear that this is not the first time there has been a fatal accident involving a bus on this stretch of road, something must be done to ensure more lives are not lost so tragically and needlessly.

News / Nazism in Poland - A recipe for mass suicide? [176]

But I have not so much a prob with Puzz but with this blatant taking sides of Daisy..that REALLY p*isses me off!

You are all transmit and not recieve... I'm trying to tell you that you are not helping yourself, you see it as taking sides..I've had some pretty spectacular arguments with Puzzler in the past, we all have

your not putting out the

which is what I have been trying to tell him *rips hair out in frustration*

News / Nazism in Poland - A recipe for mass suicide? [176]

Nope...t`wasn't him!

you did, I point out that you make a generalisation against Poles, something you don't like when people makes remarks about Germans, and all you do is bleat on about you didn't say that to Puzzie well I wasn't talking to Puzzie, I was picking you up on what you had said

and you did start it

and who is whingeing and complaining now?

I'm just discussing on Puzzies niveau...THIS doesn't seem to disturb you!

I was responding to your statement, not Puzzlers

you complained that Puzzie said somewhere that all Germans were Nazis, but then go on to make a generalisation about Poles. I am just saying that you shouldn't complain about Puzzlers accusations when you behave the same way.

UK, Ireland / London, not my cup of tea [30]

If not, I must never go there except in winter.

we're not allowed it in my office, excuse given, because we are a government department it's a security risk?! so it's okay for it to be well in excess of 30 degrees in the office and all the staff drop dead with heat stroke?
