Work / low pay in poland leads to academic brain drain [11]

Interesting article, however it is well known that unless you get some major industry sponsor academia (in any country) is not particularly well paid.

UK, Ireland / Survey of Poles in the UK [24]

it's a probable fail of a first year business studies student questionnaire.

yup - that's about the size of BBC reporting these days

i would expect more from the beeb

Hmmm.... I don't think that the Beeb is worthy of its reputation these days. I've noticed an increase in lazy reporting.

Travel / Cheap airlines are not THAT cheap anymore ! [30]

Ooooh how confusing - I never posted those comments....

In fact, I do see Wizz in a v. strong position. I received a press release the other day, announcing that they were creating a hub in the Ukraine.

UK, Ireland / Survey of Poles in the UK [24]

A poll of Poles.... LOL!

The stats can be manipulated many ways - who are these 135? A group of builders waiting for Wicks in Croydon to open, or white-collar types working in recruitment agencies and courier companies in Hammersmith?

UK, Ireland / Polish students are rising to the top of the class [30]

I think that most of this so strongly motivated people will achieve what they want, we have some univ. in Poland where we create that kind of people and we see that it is very good investemnt (they are successful).

It is no guarantee - the Alpha females at my school (you know the type - straight As, prefects, prefects, leads in the school orchestra, hockey and netball captains etc) didn't go on to be particularly successful in adult life.

Interesting article, though I am not sure why you are using this to justify that massive chip that you have on your shoulder, Lukasz :)

A couple of highly talented Polish pupils have been given an amazing opportunity. Good on them!!

Getting straight As in an environment like Cheltenham College is however no indication of success in real life.

Travel / Who do you use to make calls to Poland? [33]

How about two yoghurt pots and a very long piece of string?

Smokeyone - are you calling from an office? If you are, that might be the reason that you have some problems.

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

Aww come on - Apprentice is great - those candidates are a bunch of clowns!!

No, I don't think that you're a problem - you maybe just need to lighten the mood a little and break some ice. Your colleagues don't need to be your best buddies for life, but it makes life sweeter if you can have a laugh with them.

Break the ice - no idea where you come from, but I am guessing Poland. Get a big bag of those cow toffees and take them into the office - offer them around. Have any of them ever visited Poland? What did they think? Anyone planning to go there any time soon? Teach them they papaya dance....

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

I don't know your background, where you come from or what you do, or even what kind of place you work in, but maybe they see you reading a thick book and think that you are a bit of an introvert?

Can you round them up for beers after work? Maybe there is one or two that you get on well with, so might want to ask out for coffee one lunchtime?

Is there any banter in your office? "Hey who was watching the Apprentice last night?" or "OMG, Ken is such a plonker - I'm backing Borris in the elections" Ok, this probably seems a little banal, but you never know what happens once you break the ice....

Travel / Cheap airlines are not THAT cheap anymore ! [30]

Hmm... so maybe I was wrong LOL!

These must be tough times for these budget airlines - the other day, a friend was telling me that things were looking a little shaky at Air Berlin.

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

on daily basis I must deal with constantly ostracism and inteligent slur

Sorry to hear about this, mate. I am sure that it is not intentional - especially if they are otherwise a friendly bunch of people. Tough it out - a friend of mine from Russia came to London about 6 years ago, and since that time, her English has improved very quickly.

When brits are starting losting in conversation they start to use slang and smile to themselfs.

Maybe this is true, but I found exactly the same when I was living and working in Germany and Italy, getting to grips with German / Italian.

Love / Polish men: conservative and structured? [12]

Disagree - if you're in Poland already, that's a good start. Can you get friends to introduce you to their single male friends? Do you have any hobbies or interests that might bring you into contact with a few new faces?

Take it easy, go with the flow, and if you don't meet Mr Right straight away, you'll probably end up with a whole new bunch of mates in the process.

Just tried 0844 200 9898 - I did dial 0048 - and the message said I would like to call the UK...........

Really? I called a publisher there this morning and used that number, and it worked.

Is it possible find predictions of exchange rates in the near future?

If that the case, we'd all make a mint hedging on forex...

Travel / Who do you use to make calls to Poland? [33]

I use the 0844 numbers given on the international call checker on moneysavingexpert.com at the moment, I call 0844 200 9898 and then dial the landline number in Poland - costs 0.5p a min.

Travel / Cheap airlines are not THAT cheap anymore ! [30]

£3 each way with credit card? I can't think of any way to book a Wizz flight that doesn't involve a credit card. I doubt that they'd appreciate the contents of my piggy bank in a jiffy bag.

Central Wings seems to be the only airline to Poland that isn't taking the Pis5. For now at least.

Love / Polish mail order brides? [89]

well, they make all those males who are not able to get a wife in their own country happy.

...untill they run away to the big smoke, find an employer who is pie-eyed enough to take care of her work permit etc. and then demand a divorce. And then continue to climb their way up the ladder.

Quite clever really.
