Life / Polish Names day traditions? Presents? Food? [39]

Few on this forum though.

they know Poland from their parents stories, they've got this deluded and fairy tale-like image of it, also maybe they read too much of Pan Tadeusz ha ha.

true, but why hide behind this 'amazing and special traditional value' if it's all about getting drunk anyway? if i wanna get drunk i just go out and get drunk. it really irritates me when them dumb yanks come here with their big gob thinking they know more about Poland than we do ha ha...

Celebrating your names day is very old fashioned and many people simply don't bother with it, why are you being such a sh*t? I remember we used to celebrate my late Nan's imieniny, all her sisters and friends would come over for tea and biscuits and chat about the olden days, but my folks don't celebrate theirs, nor do my sisters because we just don't. I know people my age who celebrate their namesday but like i said, they're chavs just looking for an extra excuse to get p*ssed, it's got absolutely nothing to do with being a true Pole and remembering your roots etc. Macdonalds, Madonna and mtv? Where did you get that crappy line from? You an American Pole or something, cos them guys usually have this deluded image of Poland and it's people, so over-patriotic that it makes me cringe, with no idea what Poland is really like. Live and let live.

Love / I like this Polish girl, but she doesn't get my... English sense of humor [124]

In general, Polish translations for film and TV are on a very poor level.

especially in the older films when they had to censor stuff. i will never forget that one (can'r remember which film it was, maybe the beverley hills cop but not sure) where they translated f*ck you as 'kij ci w oko' lol

i founk shrek, ice age and other animated movies very funny with the polish dubbing, to me they are much funnier than the english versions.

They stuff their mouths with all kinds of nasty things as long as it doesn't end up in the flabby vagina.

Life / Are the Polish the most proudest people you have encountered? [51]

i have yet to experience a country other than poland whose national self-perception is so far removed from reality

every country has deluded people who are still living in the past, can't do anything about that

Is there a difference in the humor? I would like to be able to make her laugh!

look up some polish jokes maybe, get you hands on Polish humour books/videos and see for yourself what makes us laugh. i dont recommend any sleazy and suggestive jokes as that might be taken in a wrong way even if your intentions were absolutely innocent. plus the language barrier is a big issue, as some of the jokes i have heard here really dont make much sense when translated to polish even if someone is fluent in both english and polish. i suggest sticking to light humour untill you get to know each other better so then you can have a laugh at absolutely anything. plus if she truly fancies you, she will laugh at ALL the jokes you tell her haha.

Example of russian humour:

oh my god....

I though it was obvious that irishdeano was just playing/joking

well i didnt find it funny, did you? its like some guys like to check how far they can go untill it's gone too far. that is not funny, it's annoying, and it gets even more annoying when they refuse to give it up. im happy to joke, but there are things im not happy to joke about. if irishdeano is so obsessed with a dominatrix whipping his ass all night long, maybe he should stop joking about it and just get one?

Could, what we have just read between irishdeano and JustysiaS be an example of what bja is talking about?.

dont think so. im not single thats why i thought this was not appropriate lol. nothing to do with my nationality. but then if i was single and the guy started fantasising about me in a leather suit handcuffing him, he would not have much success there either.

Maybe us Scots gloss up our pride a fair bit but it bolsters our sense of identity.

it kinda annoyed me that pride of yours when i was out there. my bloke is not like that, but his family is, they want scotland to be a seperate country etc. and they wanna be scottish not british lol. i don't boast about poland's greatness because if it was so great, all those people wouldnt escape from it as soon as the eu gates opened. im still a proud pole and everybody knows that.

Hi, I'm British, theres a Polish girl I like and she seems to like me, so no problem there, but I don't think she gets my English sense of humor. Sometimes I make a joke and she thinks I am serious!

give us an example of one of your jokes and we shall tell you if it's funny or not. i know british people with an awesome sense of humour, but i also met a few who would make you wanna cry if they were about to say another 'funny' story...

Another thing I was told is that I dress like an angol (english girl) because I was wearing black tights and boots and a pink top. I don't understand that to this day...

if you're not wearing clothes everybody else is wearing, you don't fit in with the rest and that is not acceptable. everytime i go to Poland i see all girls following the exact same pattern. it's almost like they're scared to have their own style.

i reckon anyway that this option of making your messages look 'unread' is there for a purpose of concealing the fact that somebody's gone through your inbox
