Why do they need to do that in the first place. Is it because they feel that they get a higher level of social acceptance? I ask because I know a few Poles with good jobs who really try to hide their Polishness. In fact it is quite funny as they phone sometimes to my house and they are in pain trying to emulate the Queen! They are what they are, Eastern Europeans and there are millions of them. I am used to them and have nothing against them as long as they appreciate their past and do not try and inflict on me their 'new found freedom' by forming a new upper class.

Same happens on the streets of Poland too, especially as Communism has fallen. Somehow, Communism did at least keep the Poles in line and gave them some sort of discipline with an aim to work to.

They all expect free hospital, free medicines free school places, free one-to-one help in the classroom and when an Englishman goes to Poland nothing whatsoever is free.

I find that very hard to believe. If someone foreign is trying to impersonate an Englishman, I would know after seven or eight words that he was really foreign.
When I heard Goran Persson of Sweden several years ago, I could have sworn I was listening to a British Member of Parliament! When I finally realized it was Persson, I was truly speechless.

I can not really think of any reason why learning Polish is in itself worth while. It is a dying subject. However, it can be a key and a good clue to learning other languages such as Croasan, should you ever wish to visit these countries on holiday. Otherwise, the learning of this subkect is barmy, better to learn Spanish and visit South America any day of the week!

No, this is not right. The Polish word for a mortgage is hipoteka and the word hipoteczny is a record of land owership. They are not necessarily one of the same things.

The Poles always try to prove everything from figures and this proves nothing at all. The fact is, Aids is very prevelent in all of Eastern Europe, including Poland. The fact is, Poland, being a third World country, is behind other countries in collating the statistics properly. High levels of unprotected sex and drug abuse is common as well as, of course, alcohol consumption.

I know that there is a very high level of Aids in Eastern Europe and that Poland does have a higher than usual level. It might be due to the fact that they sleep around a lot and procreate like rabbits or because they do not have funding for their old hospitals.

I think that you would be working very hard indeed to earn 8,000zl per month in Poland teaching English. Even South Korea, the World's best paid country in this regard only pays 2,000 to 2,500 American dollars per month which works out at little more than 12,000 pounds a year.

Był, była, było, były and byli all depending on gender and case. Kiedyś tu był dom-there was once a house here and on it goes. You could start a sentence like 'wtedy był....' meaning 'at that time...'

If I go to Poland then it would be by plane to Warsaw as we have a friend who lives in a flat very close to the airport, in fact so close, you could walk it with your case in about twenty minutes. I could always take the bus number 175 through Warsaw to the Old Town. Otherwise, I have nothing in Warsaw at all.
