News / POLES the BLACKS of EUROPE? [104]

There was a program about the Japanese population getting older and older. When I was there, it was staggering how many old fogies there were. Now, apparently, there are more. It has been noted as a problem.

That's a more accurate assessment of what takes place. There may be a skills shortage but Poland is lucky in that it has many up and coming youngsters who will fill positions. Demographics show that it's not a classic ageing population, unlike some Asian countries.

The Poles hold their education system in high regard. The percentage who go abroad to study is not that high. Some value prestige and target quality uni's abroad. It's more for work tho. When they are taught the harsh reality that their hard graft at Uni doesn't translate into gainful employment, they seek pastures new.

News / POLES the BLACKS of EUROPE? [104]

It depends on the sector really. If the policy was really so visible, there would've been more discussion of its triumphs.

As Greg said, Tusk has done nothing of real note. Wages have gone up but for who?

My answer is no, too. Poles just need to get out of this 'we're poor' mentality. There are many here who know a thing or 2 about generating wealth. There's a lot of settling for less here. Poland is still relatively new to capitalism. Some have gone OTT and embraced it the full hog.

I do concede that there needs to be a greater incentive-based system for people to pursue careers here.

Prince, if it is indeed £ukasz (I'm not sure), posted some fantastic links about potential 'buzz industries'. In certain key areas, Poland has the potential to be a frontrunner in the long term. The govt needs to tap into these skills and create more work experience programs domestically so vital people don't go overseas to take up internships.

It's a matter of liking their complexion. They have a different skin type from people here. They do churn out many pretty faces but the Poles have the edge on them I'd say.

They may be more humble and modest than Polish women. In fact, bank on it!!

Many Poles are super rich. Romania is a much poorer country unless Poland is lying again

Life / Rudeness of polish people when they are drunk [43]

The problem is when the boorish types come out to drink. There's rudeness everywhere when people get totalled. In Scotland, it's pretty bad. I rarely got tanked up because I knew that I may face a fight on my way home. Even in peaceful countries like Japan, I heard inflammatory comments and had to pretend that I didn't understand.

In Poland, you get those who go out to fight and you may have bumped into them, in more ways than one. I have seen a fair bit of selfishness here, people not giving a Castlemaine XXXX but it's much worse in England I've heard. Proper nobs there

USA, Canada / Why would someone leave Poland for the US? [120]

Palm trees are very nice. I had a couple of real beauties to look at, palm trees I mean, when I lived in Izumo. Chilling on the balcony, drinking a beer on a warm day and looking at palm trees, heaven!! That was then

Food / Polish cakes that hit the spot - Miodownik [40]

Do any cakes here have Nutella in them? I've seen a couple with sth similar.

I've just had a teaspoon of Nutella. It's addictive. I lost some weight before but the problem is that I find things well ;)

Admin is obviously a fan of Miodownik then. OK, who likes Miodownik? To me, it is a Godsend. Not too moist, not too creamy, everything in proportion.

It just has this sumptuous taste. I still have a piece but I'm holding off of it.

Perhaps the Poles have the edge like in soups. However, I don't think it's accurate to talk of UK confectionary. The stuff we have in Scotland is not the same as in the rest of the UK. This isn't fish and chips we are talking about ;)

We have much of the same stuff as here. Sorry, I'm not JustysiaS I know

Do I like Tort? No, I'm from Scotland so I prefer Delict, boom boom ;0

Now that was lame.

You can never have too much cream.

There's another one which I can't remember. Very creamy, Rokoko or sth weird like that. It's in the delicatessen out front. Very cappucino like. It had raisins in it but that didn't hinder the enjoyment of it

Mak is pretty decent. I prefer moister cakes but it's ok.

Anything home-made in Poland is likely to be good. Our cultures are very similar in this respect.

Life / Celebrating Christmas in Poland [52]

You'd show your pom-poms? That'll do :)

We are here to stay. Wigilia can be a dreary affair so we are here to liven it up

That'd be cool. I had to wear one which I didn't know last year for my bro's wedding

The BlackWatch or sth like that.

I wore a Buchan tartan at school, beautiful blue it was.
