I didn't like Bush before 911, during, or since then. Just so you will know....
:)

I liked Clinton better for the good he did (internally-reduction of crime, reducing the inherited Rebulican deficeit, improving economy). I could have cared less about his sexual activities. If only Washington and Jefferson had to undergo the same scrutinty, this country would have collapsed at the start.

Isnt that Fox news network?

Its run by the republicans

How'd you guess :)

The only thing you can do, as an Ammie (or any nationality), is check out as many news sources as possible (including foreign) and compare notes, taking into consideration the source of the info....and consider what is to be gained by whom for the particular "spin" on the information

It is fricking exhausting....no wonder so many people don't bother!

but it's yours and you seem to like it so I won't criticize...*shrugs*

I don't like it.....but damn, it seems to be carved in stone or something. There is annoyance at small partisans who try to wiggle in and "split the vote". They are viewed as a tool to help or hurt the big parties.....to sway an election.

Again the same. The people who support Bush actively know very well why they do so.

I have said this before....mostly politics comes down to money, then power, then people--- if there is anything left over after the first two are addressed. Follow the money trail, and you will find those who have a controlling interest (I mean that figuratively as well as literally).

Brat, do you remember that during election coverage, Bush was declared a winner before all the electoral votes were verified.....the polls were still open....we have 4 time zones covering the US....what effect do you think that had in a very tight election? And that network that made this came was affiliated with Bush's party.

Does that sound like a democracy to you?

Imagine Germany without all that but only state media which filters the truth...

Darling, please know that American media is very heavily filtered!!!!!!!!

For example do you think that communism could ever prevail in USA given the american circumstances? It is certainly impossible.

No, but a do think that a charismatic leader could step in during hard times, promising good times, and the sheep would follow without any worries!

I mean that is exactly what got Bush elected....there was a liberal backlash, especially after Clinton's indiscretions....the religious right in this country wanted conservatism back with a vengeance....and they accepted the Bush package with little consideration of what else they were getting in the Bush admin!!!!!!!!

If it had not been for the Poles fighting every neighbour there would have been "Poland"

I see some truth here.....resources were exhausted. Poland fell victim to "divide and conquer" approach...they were spread too thin. Also leadership at key points could have been better. Unlucky for Poland....otherwise the outcome would have been very different I think....

No,not at all. What happened with Hitler could happen only in Germany.National socialism was absolutely and deeply german cultural product. No other land had similar background.

I don't think you would say that easily if you recognized that social experiments have produced same results on a consistent basis. If you get into mechanisms of social psychology and the phenomenons that occur in groups ("group think", mobbing, etc.)

one can see exactly why these things occur. I see some of these principles at work in Balkans as well.

But they weren't lunatics who did know from the start where all this would lead to....

Please listen carefully to my words....so you will understand.

I hear you. I believe you. This is your truth/reality/perception.
In your qwest to get his message across, you have sometimes unwittingly created the opposite image. You may be unaware of that.

Brat, did you ever read/view video in all the posts in my diversity, culture tolerance thread? It clearly shows that what happened with Hilter can happen anywhere...it is very easy in fact to "condition" one group to hate another.

It was at this time that you and I really began to "butt heads". If you are less emotional now, I would like you to revisit that thread. Not only Germans have been susceptible, it continues today in many places around the globe.

I am surprized that you missed my meaning.....it supports the idea that Germans were deceived by a charismatic leader....

Brat, what is it (the underlying issue) of perceptions of Deutchland that is most bothersome for you? What do you want people to understand, that you feel is missed?

I think I know, but I want to hear it from you...

Southern.....a question awaits you on Random Chat....

now he uses a typical germanic, runic man, what was supposed to be the archetype of Aryan race.

He did this because Patrycja and I were giving him a hard time about the avatar that came after the iron cross (a very freaky doll troll thing) so he changed it for us. :)

If you read his former posts he is actually proud of the Nazi military achievements in WW2.I doubt if his relatives who fought then have regreted it.

I did read those...and I got very upset about it. But later I came to a different understanding from other things he said.

When Brat first came here I got so very, very annoyed with him. I wanted him to go away. But I kept reading. It's possible that those posts are still there, but if someone says something pivotal, and the post is relegated to one of the "Random Chats" with or without abuse, it will be gone forever, and can be missed. Can't even trust the transcripts in these threads for continuity!

if it had not been for the generosity of the victors of WWI there wouldn't had been a Poland???

Let us not forget that Poland also disappeared from the map for a period of time. That has not happened to Germany.

He does not discriminate between Nazis and not Nazis

I came to the conclusion that this attitude is discernable only when he feels strong need to defend himself. I don't pereceive that this is his personal belief.

I will try to pay more attention...

Borders of Poland shifted for centuries. My understanding is that Poland, way back in history, was HUGE. It guess it really depends on how far back you want to look.

What if Poland decided that they wanted ALL their territory back?

Does this "history" exist anywhere that I could find it? It will not be any any book that I have seen. Help me, please.

Because anything that does not closely fit the topic gets placed here by the moderators...
I went on a trip yesterday to Phoenix, and on the way back, I stopped in Flagstaff to peruse the bookstores. I was looking for several things (which I did not find) but some thoughts came up that I wanted to share with you....

First, I was looking in a college textbook on World Mythology. The text was divided by Northern Europe (Nordic), and of course Greek, Roman, Egypt, Mayans........but nothing from Central Europe.

In history books, there is very little about South Central Europe.....only Russian, German, Franch, english, so forth....

That is why there is no knowledge here of that part of the world.....

In my opinion one German, the Bratwurst Boy managed to humiliate everyone.

I think it is very important for him to vindicate the reputation of Germany, so they are not only viewed as "the bad guys". From my viewpoint, he is stuggling with the same feelings as Vrana, who also does not want his country to be viewed as the "bad guys".

In a way, both are correct. There were good and bad on both sides.
In the DVD of the Pianist (which I have not watched yet...sitting on my coffee table at present) there is a prologue by Roman Polanski. He states that there were good Germans and bad Germans, good Poles and bad Poles. I think we all know this, but it gets lost in the larger flood of emotions.

Yes,western historians traditionally ignored the history of slavic and balcan folks

It is bizzarre.....as if they did not exist.

You know what I most recall about the start of WWI from class? That it began as a result of a miscommunication. Oh yes, there were tensions, and war was probably inevitable.....but that was not the emphasis that I received.

In reality the atomic bomb pacified the world because of the certainty of mutual destruction.

When only one or two powers had the bomb, this may have been the case. When multiple governments have atomic capabilities, the game becomes more complex, and more room (simply by law of averages) for unforseen developments.

I haven't read it, but have read about it. It was a kind of Chinese "manual" for war. And I think in the early 90's in the US it was a fad among businessmen because the concepts cross-applied: knowing your enemy/competition, analyzing weaknesses, survey the terrain/market, etc.

I was thinking that with his fondness for History, this work would complement nicely.
Who knows, I may read it myself....although currently I already have a full syllabus to get through! :)

Everyone seems to forget about the Vietnam war

I haven't forgotten it, but I was a child at that time, and didn't understand it until I got older. It is the focus of so many films....anyone can get some feeling of what happened.

It is the more recent wars that bother me. There seems to be a few going, in some part of the world, at any given time.

God, I hope not. Look at how long for healing to come after the last one!
And how do you keep people aware of what happened (to prevent repeating) without reopening wounds? There's the tough part.

In fact it was by far the most ineffective strategy to follow.

Southern, your knowledge of history is very detailed. Do you like to read historical accounts?

Why, in this age (2nd millennium) are wars still waged by combat and destruction? Are we not advanced enough, or civilised enough to solve problems in others ways?

(Yes, you are right I am overly idealistic-Libra rising and all that)

I am female, and I am a mother. No mother will ever want war. No mother wants her son harmed, or her children harmed, or her husband to leave for war. I see war as something that takes lives (which are of infinite value) for smaller grievances (lesser value). War destroys not only life, but lives (those who survive). War rapes the land, steals culture and history, and leaves rubble in its wake.

I support sanctions and other forms of deterrents.....not war.
