History / Katyn executioners named, protected by Russian authorties [35]

The killing of 20,000 Poles cannot really be corrected unless one resorts to reciprocity.

The best thing would be an admission of guilt and an acceptance by the relevant authorities that action should have been taken sooner. No use blaming modern day Russians for what happened that day.

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

Well, like other people, I believe they have tripped themselves up. The current set-up yielded results which were not to their liking, tough titties I say. Yes, my analysis is rather superficial here but the bottom line is that they paid the price. I don't know if the current sweeteners on offer are sufficient to placate the masses and tip the balance.

I also haven't read too much on the Lisbon Treaty but one thing is for sure, it'll have more gloss on it than Posh Spice.

Work / Advice on WHEN to go to Poland to teach English [30]

Well, true. However, you are not the first to stumble across that idea. You may have to dig deeper, you just never know.

The nightlife has a great reputation. I don't think my fiancee would be too happy with me sneaking away for a sampling.

Work / Advice on WHEN to go to Poland to teach English [30]

I've heard that schools in Kraków are very strict and procedural. They also have in-built speakers to listen in to your lessons.

No, the rate of pay is fixed as far as I know. I'd maybe see what is on offer in Kraków. I could put you in contact with a guy who taught Callan there. This could be done via PM.

Work / Advice on WHEN to go to Poland to teach English [30]

I know Callan teachers without degrees or CELTA. They tend to favour couples at Callan, Gliwice. I was there for 3 years and can tell you that that was the case.

With Callan, you just need to listen to your trainer. I trained there once and you just need the confidence of your students. I had a nice bunch so they picked things up quickly. I was a more dynamic teacher then, a leader if you will. Now, I'm more of a facilitator. More CELTA skills are required for what I do now. Trust me, CELTA and Callan ain't real bedfellows.

As Delph said above, you will need to use teaching skills to have a good FCE class, or CAE.

That's a good point, delph. Stand your ground at all times, you are a disposable asset for many schools, a tick in a box sometimes. Maintain an ethic that teaching is about conveying ideas and not just a business for them to earn off of. That really got my goat, the capitalist ethic underlying teaching, sickening.

Always put yourself in the eyes of the student and don't get too embroiled in school politics.

I know Luton, I always fly from there to Kraków.

Callan may be looking for teachers now. I know for sure that 2 teachers will be leaving later in June. Another has his last day tomorrow. Many are jumping ship here in Gliwice. They need teachers and fast.

Any specific data you need, I'm the man in the right place.

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]

Magda, your comments are quite accurate. You are a smart woman. Many Brits are fed up with aspects of our health care system. Me, well, I challenged conventional wisdom and all my doctor could tell me was 'time up'. I am not, nor ever have been, a student of medicine but my mum had loads of books on a variety of medical issues. My doc didn't seem to want to take me on, even with the limited knowledge that I have. It was NLP, he had these notions that didn't square with mine. Maybe he was having a bad day, doctors are gey stressed.

One little caveat tho, Magda. The Scots are a complaining bunch. Sometimes, the whinier, the better. I think you'll find that far more Scots go do the doctor for this and that, trivial stuff too.

LOL, that was clever Patty.

Aha, you've tried English doctors Magda. I guess you just assume that Scottish doctors are just the same? Or Welsh and NI for that matter?

Food / Twaróg ser - serving suggestions [26]

Miso-shiro (soup), hmm...not too fond of it.

Ika (squid) is tasty too.

My fiancee made 6 rolls yesterday. I had 3 and felt pretty bad, too much for me. Bloated like Mr Blobby I was :(

Food / Twaróg ser - serving suggestions [26]

Next time when I go out for sushi ;) ;) (correct version)

Okonomiyaki is superb. I have 3 sushi rolls in the fridge. Wasabi, ginger and soy too. Cool.

How's the toro sushi there, pgtx? Toro is tuna belly and is considered a luxury in Japan. I tried it and was thoroughly impressed.

UK, Ireland / ARE SCOTS INTOLERANT RELIGIOUS FANATICS? [5]

Still, there needs to be tolerance on our side. What he did falls within the realms of acceptable. However, rights are rights but people are people. Gazza got slated for making a flute gesture, again just a gesture, but they are charged gestures and do incite the crowd.

You can lose your life through gesturing. Try making an 'OK' sign to Brazilian mafia and see how far that gets you. It means 'you are a weak pussy' and is a sign that will trigger fighting.

News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

Yeah Yoshi, Stevenson was Scottish. Another genius inventor. When it comes to inventions in the West, the Scots (relative to size) are untouchable.

Oh, and it was England who invented the www, not America as they'd have you believe.

Food / Twaróg ser - serving suggestions [26]

My fiancee has a super idea.

Put it in a soup bowl, put in 1 or 2 egg yolks (depending on the quantity of twaróg you have), add some sugar and vanilla essence to taste and whisk it. It tastes really got, I can vouch for that.
