History / Can we somehow link Marco Pole with Poland? :) [17]

some say that he was Serb

Hahaha, Crow, I was just about to write that this was probably what you were going to say. You're priceless, Crow and highly entertaining. Never mind that it's nonsense, it's very amusing to read. Keep up the good work!

True, but do you really thing myself or Sean quickly edited the Wiki-page in order to prove we were right?

Though the origin of this sauce is probably Portuguese,

The sauce yes. But I was talking about the peppers.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in UK. Ch. 3 - Food [93]

Lets face it, European food is very similar.

You're right, except maybe for the French and Italian kitchen. At least continental food. You know why I buy such a lot of food in those Polish shops? Because it reminds me so much of Dutch food. Polish, German and Dutch food are very much alike, there are only little differences.

RevokeNice

You're partly right: Piri Piri is originally American and was brought by Portugese sailors to Africa. So it didn't originate in Portugal, but in Latin America.

You know, I'm really glad you informed us about this. I did know that the "fresh" eggs you buy in the shops are generally 6 months old and have been stored for months in a warehouse in Zimbabwe(!) before being sent over here to be sold as "fresh". It's all such a nice thought.

Hitler

Hitler was not only gay, he was also a vegetarian, drank no alcohol and had one testicle.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in the UK. Ch. 4 - Language [66]

1. Why would I speak so that everybody can eavesdrop?
2. If Brits come to Poland do they speak Polish?
3. Was that polite to interrupt us, even though we were 'just Poles', or 'just immigrants'?

1. If it's a private conversation, you don't have to, but I agree that one should at least have a basic level of English when going to the UK or to Ireland. Or the native language of the country one plans to live in. You can complain about this, but I also know quite a few Poles, who after years of being in Dublin not even manage to push out one decent word of English more than "Yes" or "No". The problem here is that they don't need to speak English: they are with so many here in Dublin that they can go to Polish shops, Polish pubs and hang out only with Polish ppl. While I am tolerant, I think this is a disgrace. You're living in the country and you should be able to speak the language. Simple as that. Goes for all countries, not only the UK or Ireland.

2. Like somebody already said: if it's on hols, then it's a matter of politeness to be able to speak at least some standard lines or words in the native language. I think most ppl would appreciate that anyway. Unlike popular belief in my country ppl actually appreciate it that you can say a few words in Dutch instead of just starting in English, French or German, having read that anybody in Holland can speak those languages. Just common courtesy, I would say. If you're planning to work and live in Poland, it's essential to know the language.

3. It's not polite indeed, however, I don't think he meant bad with it. I think in his drunkeness he heard a weird language and he wanted to know whether it was Russian, Polish or any other language. It's not a "Poles"-thing. Ppl should not overreact in sits like this: not everything is inspired by racism or hatred.

M-G (thinks Poles are way too insecure about issues like this)

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish migrant in UK. Ch. 3 - Food [93]

Wine is dirt cheap and there are even some wined that are possible to drink - Lussac St. Emillion for example. Champagne is cheaper than in Poland even in absolute values.

I take it you haven't been to Ireland. Wine is very expensive here, except for Aldi and Lidl. A few weeks I got the chance to compare: a decent Chablis costs in Holland about 7 Euros; in Ireland a lesser Chablis costs 15 to 16 Euros. Chardonnay the same and try to find a Riesling...The range of wines is, like a lot of things, very limited, unfortunately.

Lager is rather tasteless

Some of them are, others aren't. Depends on what you choose. Ales are good, but not that great though.

It's not possible to buy Jacob's coffee

But why would you buy German coffee in the first place? (Dutchman speaking) You should get Douwe Egberts for your daily use of coffee. Much better quality anyway. If you go to Lidl and you buy that Goldbrand poundpack for 2 Euros and 69 cents, you'll have Jacob's Kaffee, only with a different package. Don't know if they have a Lidl in London and how much that would be in pounds though.

You are gay????????????????????????

Edit: ps, I don't mind gay ppl. Some of my best friends are gay, I just couldn't help but putting it like that, especially after your remark about the Jews.

News / Poland. Sold for nothing. [341]

Why so many generations of our ancestors during so many centuries, begining from the Alexander's III times had hated and despised this... this race?

I can tell you: they wanted somebody to blame for their own incompetencies. Failures themselves wanted to take on an easy scapegoat that looked different than themselves. And of course because loads of the failures owed the Jews loads of money. Money that they didn't want to pay back. Easy peasy :)

Edit: Jews were successful where your anchestors failed. It's hard to swallow to see somebody else be more successful than you are yourself, isn't it? Well, they sure found a way to get even on that one, didn't they? :)

Love / Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better? [134]

Read my "how was your day, babe"-post. That's what I encounter a lot of times. In hindsight it's funny, yes, but at the time you could sometimes, as we say in Holland, "glue them behind the wallpaper" (I don't know an English equivalent to this expression, sorry).

News / Polish converts: When did you have your revelation? [29]

My revelation was a couple of years ago: I realized that Poland was the only way to eternal life and I vowed to never be condemned to the cardboard hell that is Poland e.

What the heck are you talking about? I don't understand a single thing you've written.

Some of them were, most of them were Russian. Read my last reply to Joe in the 9/11 thread.

Soviets are their own breed. That's why nationalists don't get! Fricking THINK!

Couldn't agree more to that. Time to stop anti-semitism after 2000 years, I think.

News / How do people react when you tell them you are Polish? [71]

Who's going to believe a Pole owned a railroad from the 1700's ?

Nobody, because in the 1700's there were no railroads :)

But about the topic: nobody of the Americans I know gives a sh*t whether you're from PL or not. Poles should stop talking themselves into some sort of inferiority complex or see things which are not there and then cry about it. Nobody gives a darn if you're from PL or anywhere else in Europe. The fact that you're from Europe is interesting, the rest not, to the Americans I know, at least.

Study / Question: about Tuition fee for Non-EU [5]

super-mario

I think you have to live for a set amount of time before you can avail of the benefits within the EU.

why it’s so expensive for Non-EU??

It's to discourage non-EU citizens to come study within the EU. It's everywhere the same. If you're not American and you want to study in the US, you will have to pay more for the same than an American does. It's normal. The native citizens get to go first and the non-native citizens come after that.

I think 18. Before that age you have to ask permission to the queen. I think in the UK it's the same way as in the Netherlands.

Love / Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better? [134]

JustysiaS

Well actually, Surinam women are like that. They are very strong and independent and they will kick your *ss if you don't behave. I once wanted to know why that was as they didn't work, just stayed at home, minding the kids. And quite a lot of times I heard that their Surinam husbands were no-good sleep-arounds. And to protect themselves against the constant hurt of being cheated on, they toughened up their act. I do understand why women want to be independent money-wise and so on, maybe I just formulated the remark wrong. I was aiming at strong women who are married and stay home minding the kids and yet are strong and kick your *ss if you don't behave.

Is it with Polish women the same as with Surinam women? Strong and independent because their husbands are useless, no-good losers who sleep with the first woman who wants to?
