USA, Canada / Why Americans of Polish orgin do not exist in the USA politics? [34]

There aren't any Chinese or Indian politicians in the US. Except the Indian kid that got elected gov of Lousianna (after he magically converted to Catholicism).

It's because they know they don't have to run for office to influence policy. They are smart enough to know all that's needed is impeccable lobbying skills.

It appears anti social but it's the same sort of ordeal that many who are overly religious go thru. Why is it religion creates so much tension? Isn't religion about finding peace?

The more successful he is, the more people will hate him.

The thing is, Yehudi, that happens everywhere. In the US, especially. People resent the geeks who do better than everyone else. The majority resent the minority who do excellent on their SATs and get a 4.00 GPA every year of high school and maintain that GPA after being accepted to an Ivy League college or MIT.

Resentment, bias, jealousy, envy, and hatred are everywhere. They affect us all.

It's because our society is used to dealing with immigrants all over the world and we welcomed them, not always the best welcome, but usually someone somewhere welcomed them, even if others oppose their arrival. They come here and they want to have a better life. Everybody shares this philosophy and optimism and so many have succeeded. They can be very proud of that fact.

There's a few ethnic groups like blacks and latinos that haven't done as well but everyone from Europe generally did alright.

The Jews weren't really hated in the US. Yehudi, I think the US is the one country the Jews have been most successful.
But at the same time you can say that about any ethnic group from Europe. They all became more successful in the US :D
It takes some self reflection to figure out why a minority does badly in a country because all of them don't follow that trend. They have their free will.

True. But Poland was where it mattered most. That's was the biggest concentration of Jews in the world. So that's why we're more aware of polish anti semitism on the 1930s than, say Canadian anti semitism.

Yehudi, there were plenty of American Jews experiencing anti semitism here. They teamed up with blacks and started the civil rights movement. It was a factor throughout the world. People discriminate against each other based on differences. It's part of the human condition and it's only when there are mitigating factors that it doesn't get out of control.

There's a mob mentality in every nation, every race, every ethnic group. Anywhere people share commonalities a mob mentality can develop.

Yehudi, there was anti semitism throughout Europe and in the US at the time. Poland isn't out of context there, sorta going with the flow of the rest of the world. People today have got to go back and time and apply yesterday's standards to the situation or it's impossible to understand.

What's outstanding is that Poland was never an actual ally of the Nazis and it would have been far easier to just be an ally and not fight. That would have been the easiest way but it didn't happen. Yehudi, perhaps jewish people could focus on that aspect of Polish history a bit more. It's easy to feel hostility and anger about the situation but try to remember key points, like, the fact the Poles were never officially on the side of the Nazis. Shouldn't the Jews appreciate them profoundly just for that? They were surrounded by a sea of Nazi supporters yet they stayed with the British and have been criticised for that. Jews should show a little appreciation for that.

Harry, you forget this one thing. There's another thread around here somewhere with a long list of countries who allied with Nazi Germany. It would have been too easy for Poland to include itself on that list but which name is conspicuously missing? It goes to show Poland didn't buckle under pressure and deserves a lot of credit for that. Poland was never allied with Nazi Germany why should it be treated worse than the countries that were?

Instead of saying "If Poland would have given Gdańsk to Hitler WWII wouldn't have happened", they should be thinking and saying, "If all those countries would have been more like Poland, not allying themselves with the Nazis WWII wouldn't have happened"

Haven't you noticed the trend away from Nazi Germany? I was raised hearing in school how horrific Nazi Germany was and they were the ones responsible for the holocaust. I never heard anything about Poles having anything to do with it until just recently. Why the shift away from the real perpetraitors? Suddenly people are kissing Germany's ass for some reason.

They are only self centered to you because you don't agree with them. Just because you don't like my opinion doesn't make yours the right one. Maybe you are biased and completely wrong but won't admit it because you want to save face? I could easily say that about you but since I don't know, I won't.

Well..what we saw before, during and after wwII is a great example of how anti polish Europe is..

There's no point in going off topic with this. Israel has responded to the needs of Poland in this matter and that's what's important and there's nothing anyone on this forum can post that will change that!

There's a lot of anti Polishness in Europe and after being on this forum a while, I begin to see why Poles are so grumpy, complaining, and have a bad attitude. Look at what they gotta put up with!

There is a big difference between an adult and a teenager.

Where I live in the US it isn't tolerated. They get in trouble with the police if they get caught spray painting a wall. It's because if no one cared, every single space would be covered with graffiti. It's that big a problem. You have to make a stand or it's going to be an impossible headache of a situation.

The Poles have every right to demand this type of behaviour stop. You would have to be anti Polish to not understand that what the Israelis did was wrong and needed to be stopped.

Sean, they should be held to standards of conduct just like everyone else. Did you know an American teenager or young adult was punished in Singapor or someplace in Asia because he was vandalizing and being disrespectful and the authorities told him "excuse me, but you cannot act that way here." and they threw the book at him and they had every right to throw it, too. He was acting stupid and they called him on it. Then he went whining to the American Embassy about it but truth is he shouldn't have been acting like that in the first place. He wasn't in the US so he has to expect something different.

It's the same in this situation. Act up and be held responsible. Accept the consequences.

They may be from families that take a strong and misguided view of the Holocaust. Some carry baggage from distorted sources and let their frustrations out on the unsuspecting public.

You could say that statement is part of the topic and has some profundity and astuteness. Digging below the surface some and you are most likely correct in that assertion, Sean, but this talk about soldiers doesn't have much to do with these kids taking yearly trips to Poland.

Just because they are high school kids, Yehudi, doesn't mean they shouldn't be expected to be well behaved and go by the rules just like high school kids everywhere are expected to do. That's life. You can't use some excuse for acting that way.
