Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

1.It takes two to Ouija. Usually one person is not able to work the Ouija. Get a friend to use it with you. A male and female is usually recommended.

As we all know ghouls like to party and if a spirit doesn't appear then you can get it together with your "friend".

2.Timing. Most practitioners suggest using the board at night when, they say, less interference is in the atmosphere.

Yes all that daylight interference with the spirit world or because you can not see well, your imagination races.
And it will make you look more attractive to the "friend" you are trying to impress in the first place.

3.Create some atmosphere. The Ouija is more fun if you darken the room and light some candles. Turn off the TV and any music to minimize distractions.

So you can get it together with your "friend".

4.Have a seat. The two users should sit facing each other, with knees touching if possible, with the board on their laps. Don't use a table.

This is just foreplay.

5.Decide on a questioner or medium. Even though both people can ask questions -- or anyone else in the room can -- only one of the users should be the medium (the one to formally ask questions of the board).

"am I going to get laid tonight or is all of this just a waste of my time?".

6.Place your fingers on the planchette. You and your partner should place the fingers of both hands very lightly on the planchette, or pointer.

Touch her lightly with your finger tips.

7.Move it. Purposely move the planchette around in a circle on the board for a moment or two to get it 'warmed up.'

Put on a bit of a show, you are trying to get in to your "friend's" knickers.
Least you can do is go round lightly using your fingers, foreplay, she'll like it.

8.Attitude. Don't let the board control the session. The medium should begin by announcing that the session will only allow an experience that is positive or toward a higher good and that negative energies are not welcome.

I think that is sound advise, never let a board control you.
Unless you want a bit of rough.

9.Begin simply. Start with a simple question, one that requires a yes or no answer.

Wanna get naked?.

12.Don't ask stupid questions.

I think it would be inevitable, if the person is stupid enough to believe that they are going to pick up chicks with a "magik" board, then they are bound to spoil the whole thing by asking stupid questions.

Avoid questions such as, 'When am I going to die?' If the board answers, 'in 6 months,' you might just worry about it needlessly.

Basically, it is a crock of ****, anyone who worries what a board tells them,
A. their friend will never shag them.
B. they have mental problems.

13.Don't ask for physical signs. Many experienced users warn against asking for physical signs that the 'spirit' is real or present.

Don't ask because it is crap and won't work.

14.Don't believe everything the board tells you. Just as with any other source of information, don't accept whatever the board says to be the truth or accurate.

Hahaha, yep boards are not a source of lotto numbers, know why? because it is all crap,

15.Close the board. This is an important step. When you're done with your session, slide the planchette to 'GOODBYE' and remove your hands.

Ouija, helping kids get pregnant for centuries.

Scientific explanation

So the boffins have admitted that it moves, but its not a spirit that moves it but ones Subconscious. Theyve got some crappy theortetical answer for everything.

Ah ha but read the rest of the same artical

The subconscious thought process may produce an answer that is different from what the user expected in their conscious thought process—thus perpetuating the idea that the board has "mystical powers". The Penn & Teller: ********! episode on Ouija Boards ran an experiment using unbiased participants. Questions were being asked to the late William Frawley with very strong answers. The participants were then blindfolded and the board was turned 180 degrees without their knowledge. With continued questioning, the planchette then traveled to bare areas of the board where the participants believed the "Yes" and "No" marks were located.

UK, Ireland / What are Polish Peoples Views of a Re-United Ireland [80]

Interesting thread,
I am curious as the Polish people, who have been living in Ireland for a few years now, begin to settle for the long term they will get more involved in the politics of Ireland.

When I say I am Irish, here in Poland a lot of people then refer to me as British, I inform them that I am not.

The understanding of what is and has happened in Ireland is not great here but there is a huge change since Polish people have gone to Ireland, the mixing of the two cultures has improved understanding immensely.

I think as Poles in Ireland learn the history and become part of the community and more importantly see for themselves what it is like, they will understand why a reunited Ireland is inevitable.

It has become tarnished in later years due to dissident organisations.

I wonder how Poles view, the recent shooting of the two British soldiers and the Polish pizza man?.

It is important to me, that we obtain re-unification through non-violent means.

News / POLAND - STILL ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST PRO-AMERICAN COUNTRIES? [3]

Poland has long had the reputaiton of being one of the world's most pro-American countries.

Where'd you get that from?.
I would say Poland is pro U.S. but not the World's most pro, U.S. country.

America is the continents of North America and South America, I believe you mean the U.S.

McDonaldisation

shyte

Why then is it always packed?.
Just people complaining? :)

Hollywood getting worse and worse

Yeah but their animation seems to be getting better.
And after the same formula for so long, it gets boring, same story, same characters over and over...

MTV

wheres the good old mtv

I want my MTV, hahaha

Halloween

That's an Irish pre-Christian tradition.

Valentine's

Is probably the worst of the lot (not Irish ;)

Life / Power cuts in Poland [5]

Ask not what Enion can do for you but what you can do for Enion.

Enion is the electricity company with the monopoly in certain areas and couldn't care less.
Full of bureaucrazy and even after you get through all the paper work they require, for no particular reason, there are power cuts all the time.

Are youz with Enion?, they are like a state run communist "company". I can't stand them personally but I have to deal with them in work...

Travel / Can someone give me information on Eastern Poland? [10]

I divide Poland into three The partition of Poland (3).
Poland did not exist for about 140 year and it was divided up between Russian, German and Austrian.

Poland partition

I drove a lot through Poland and I could see the ghost towns in the east.
Something like 30% more funding is relocated from E.U. funds to help the east develop.
It is an interesting place for people who want to set up factories and other investments.

Is it more industrial or agriculture based?

Agricultural.

Are the people there earning the same money as in the more popular parts?

No, people in the east get less money for the same work.

Is life as rosy?

I don't know what you mean by this question?.

Work is not so easy to come by in Poland, particularly in the east of Poland.

Food / What Polish food or drink do you not like and why? [37]

One of my least favourite foods is galaretka for dinner

I agree, it always reminds me of dog food in the jelly.
I suppose it never did the dog any harm.
i don't like jelly anyway and they sell the sliced stuff to put in your sandwiches here, no thank you.

I also don't like sour cabage, too heavy in the stomach.

Where is a good place to find people in Poland who don't speak English?

I would say anywhere out of the major cities.
Polish people do not speak English so well yet, as it has only become obligatory in schools recently.
And every Polish person I have talked to is quite happy to talk to me in Polish.

Hello Mike,

You will have a great time in Krakow, I am sure.

You can find Recommendations for Krakow. You also might want to check out Zakopane, about 100km south of Krakow, buses and trains go daily.

And feel free to add anything you think relevant to those threads and let us know how you get on.

Best of luck.

You have your beliefs

I don't have a belief, belif requires no evidence.

Just call it a day,

You can't say that and then go on to spout your belief, this is a public forum and I have as much right to post my opinion on here as you do.

because everyone could debate until they are "blue in the face" and it will not change anything.

So why then do you continue?.

Why don't you both just agree to disagree. Nobody knows what is on the otherside until you die and therefore noone can relate this back..

I personally believe that there is something on the otherside,

These two comments together, in your one post, one after another, reads that I should not post here because your belief is more important some how.

You are basically saying there is no point in discussing it at all and then you go on to state your views.

I find it often, with people who have absolutely no evidence for the things they believe, to want to stop the discussion as some kind of quasi mystical mystery and I disagree.

Tell me this Lexi, humans have been around for about 200,000 years, so why are all these superstitious ghost stories only from the last two hundred years?.

Does your belief in a spirit include other animals and plants or is it just humans?.

I personally believe that there is something on the otherside,

So basically it is okay for you to "believe" but not okay for me to say it is rubbish.

I dislike that word "belief", you can basically believe anything with absolutely no evidence, it is simply ridiculous.

Nobody knows what is on the otherside

There is no other side.

your spirit lives on

No it doesn't, you die and that's it.
This airy Fairy rubbish is just ridiculous.

When people die in. hopitals they open the windows the let the spirit out,

Decomposition of the body, releasing of gases after death.

even in life it is the spirit of a person that makes them who they are, not the body.

No it is not.

I dont understand that if youre referring to

After Paintballing, after the BBQ we were scullin pints in Alchemia, the bar, and some how it came up that I am an Atheist and you said you'd have it out with me on PF for that:)

when you first became a member and i told you to bugger off

I think everyone did ;)

im not questioning your religion

Good because I don't have one.

i mentioned soul it wasnt in the religious context.

Then I think mind and soul are the same thing.

Perhaps we should leave this one for now and just call it an unsolved mystery.

The lack of any objective evidence would make it impossible to solve now.

Travel / Questions about Vilnius [7]

I understand that public transportation between Vilnius and Poland is a bit dodgy - any thoughts?

Fly, if you can, last I heard is LAL (Lithuanian airlines) went bust.
FlyLAL suspended operations on 17 January 2009.

But there should be other airlines operating.

I get the feeling that you don't want to fly to experience more of the countries, there are coaches of course.
The coaches are at the train-station in Vilnius.
Although the only time I took it to Poland I had an annoying experience full of loud drunk Poles coming from Riga on their way home.

So that leaves the train, I have never taken the train.
I have heard from hitch-hikers that there is a train from Vilnius direct to Poland these days.
Check PKP website for times.

And now for some useless but interesting info...
The last train passed through a nonEU country, which meant a long wait at the passport control boarder crossing and I heard you even had to change train as E.U. have different size train tracks than Russian.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_profile#Europe

In the countries of former USSR 65 kg/m (131 lb/yd) rails are common.

Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

a soul is what seppeartes you from me and what essentially makes us individual. Its the real person deep inside.

I don't think so, unless I am in physical contact with someone or agree with them, I am separate from everyone in body and mind.

I dont think there is a next life either, but there is something.

I think people very often want to believe that there is something.
Fear of death, the unknown, does not mean there is anything after life and we comfort ourselves with fair tales.
I think people would be better off focusing on this one life than making up stuff about another.

it does prove that certain scientistst theorys are crap.

If something is a mystery, it doesn't prove squat.

I believev what makes you you is the soul.

What makes you believe that?.

the next too..

I don't honestly think there is a next life.

Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

Many unsolved mysteries remain unsolved as they are unsolvable.

This does not automatically mean there is a super natural.

but the soul is all unique.

What soul?.
I have a mind but not a soul in the religious sense of the word.

In the best interest of man it should make sense

Thats wrong.

Why?.

. Next time you doubt anythingt just look up on a cloudless night, and then think what you typed here and make sense of it.

You are confusing my Atheism with lack of awe at the magnificence of the universe.
They are two very very different things, one is Santa Claus the other is the Universe.

--------------------------------------------

I remember in Alchemia, you said you were going to have it out with me on here because I am Atheist :)

Travel / Questions about Vilnius [7]

No problem, as I said, if there is anything you are particularly interested, let me know and I will post something here.

But the things I have posted already are the main attractions.

Also, we are planning to visit Białystok on our way back to Kraków

It's a 12 to 14 hour straight drive from Vilnius to Krakow.
And as I was working in both places, I never did much sight seeing but Augustów looks really beautiful (Reminds me of Carrick-on-Shannon in Ireland).

And Białystok, is home to Żubrówka :)

Here is a video I took during the winter.

Also watch your speed limit in Lithuania, the cops take bribes and often over charge for the speeding tickets.

Ironside

Just an observation but if you changed the names of the countries in your post above, it could be Germany or Russia talking to Poland rather than you ( a Pole) talking down to Lithuania.

Travel / Questions about Vilnius [7]

Hello BLS,

what to see,

It really depends on what you are interested in?.
Let me know and I will be of more use.

Check these two tourist magazines
Lithuania Today or

Vilnius in your pocket

I recommend, the KGB museum in the centre of Vilnius,

trakia

The hill of crosses.

They have wonderful churches too. St. Anne's church is my personal favourite façade (Flamboyant Gothic and Brick Gothic styles) and St'Peter's and Pauls is my favourite interior, with over 2000 sculpting inside, a black Jesus and a crystal ship hanging above the aisle.

Vilnoja Sculpture Park Click here
stoneart.lt/en

And if you are very religious go see the "Gate of Dawn"

For a very good bar, restaurant and nightclub, i recommend Cozy.
People will be able to speak English in there and you can get lots of info.

My best advise is to stay in the old town, it is more safe and tourist friendly.

I used to live in Vilnius for a few years, the first time I went it was in 1997 for a month just travelling around for a month.

It has changed a lot since then.

P.S. I think you PMed me about this and I never replied, so I put more effort in to this post to redeem myself :)

lick here

Obviously I meant "click" Freudian slip or a typo, I will let you decide :)

Also check the TV Tower not much to look at but of great historical importance.

And Vilius Cathedral, it's the centre of the city.
A short walk behind this Cathedral is a castle tower, offering panoramic views of the old town, for a price.

Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

theres just too many unsolved mysteries for that to be the truth.

Unsolved mysteries are just mysteries because they are unsolved.

What made you?

I know my parents had something to do with it ;)

what got you here, right now, and how will you get someplace else?

I flew in to Krakow's Balice airport and it will probably be my escape route too.

If you die and that is the end then nothing makes sense.

Nobody said it had to make sense.

Thats for sure, its just a shell mate.

All you are is dust in the wind.
See I can talk in metaphors too but it still means nothing.

Keep faith hope is a good thing.

I have never seen Atheism dry the tears of a widowed bride. I have never seen Atheism comfort the single mother. I have never seen Atheism calm the spirit of a distressed father. And I have never seen Atheism offer hope to the hopeless, forgiveness to the sinner,

I see the appeal but I would prefer to live in the real world than a made up fairytale.
I also see the appeal of Santa Claus...

ive seen a ghost.

I believe that you believe, you saw a ghost.
That is as far as I would go with that one.

Life / Haunted Homes in Poland [173]

Allegedly, some people who stayed in the room where this picture is committed suicide, others have had bad luck.

Some have even been condemned to roam the Polish Forums for eternity ;)

It does not surprise me that superstitious people find something and interpret it as supernatural.
It is of course good fun to scare yourself,
the mind is a powerful thing and the adrenalin, blood pumping through your vains and heightened state of awareness, are all very stimulating.
There are many ways of digesting data and humans are pattern forming creatures.
Just look at a cloud and tell me what you see.

The simple truth is, you die and that's the end.
A lot of you reading that won't like it.
