News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

Your grate cancelor Merkel is 25 % Polish

I'm going to guess that more than one person in Germany or Poland has ancestry from either country...just as a simple result from the fluctuating borders over the course of history....and you can throw in some ancestry from Ukraine, Lithuania and Russia while you are at it!

What difference does it matter? Why should it matter? To whom does it matter?

Lukasz....what happens if you discover someday that you have German ancestry?
What if Brat would have some Polish ancestry? What if (GASP) you are related! Maybe even distant cousins!

(nah...that's too scary for me to imagine!) :D

NO! I refuse to be potato.

So Crow......you would be against potato unification? You prefer to be mixed up as bits of potato in a soup?
That is not what I expected you to say!!!!!!! :)

Here's a heads up.......

There's gonna be a astrological showdown on Tuesday between Mars and Pluto.....both of my rulers.....and I can feel it already. People are gonna want to fight......

EVEN I'm in the mood for a smack-down.....can't help myself! (and I never fight!) :(

Lukasz.....why do you include insults in your argument? That only brings more insults from the others. Do you want to debate, or only fight?

*shakes head*

"Potatoes of all countries....unify!"

*Shopgirl pauses to consider the effects of potato unification*

And after the unification, the potatoes will establish a government, create armies, insist on fair-trade agreements, and run around spouting off why they are the superior vegetable. Although a harsh political party delineation could develop between the sweet potatoes (who feel under-represented) and the Yukon Gold's who think they own the field, whilst the baby red potatoes are just happy to be with the peas. There will be endless arguments from potatoe with carrots and cabbage.....and the only way to have peace in the end......will be to make soup.

(no I have not been drinking) :)

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

My other Polish friend Ania, who is in CA, is working in a group of Poles and Germans at a resort. She said she was mostly annoyed with her fellow countrymen because they would not stop complaining, and she was sick of hearing it.

People are just people. Same everywhere.

And most of the pepole who were tolerant when comes back from there becomes anty - german.

I just got news from a Polish friend of mine who was in the US eight years ago.....I wanted to see what she was doing (Dorota), and it turns out that she married a German and moved there, and is very happy. Generalizations about any group just isn't fair.

You really have to be careful.....it is crucial to separate "peoples" from their Governments. They are NOT the same thing!

Not all of Poland likes the twins, especially the university student age Polish people. Their parents/grandparents are more conservative.

I don't know about Russia. I don't have such a clear vision of what the people think about their government and Putin.

And I think everyone should know by now what I think about Mr. Bush (actually I try very hard NOT to think of him at all). :(

both sets of people have really brought missery to the poles.

I know that. But like you said "they have" as in "they have done in the past".
My point is that we need to look ahead.....instead. Respect the past, but embrace the future. :)

Well....I will say what I have said before in another thread a long time ago......

that Poland now is new to the EU, and will need help at first to build up strong, but then she will be in a position to contribute back to the EU. I especially think that the world cup will help to bring in money, and bring back all the labor force that has gone out of Poland. The young generation there is smart and wants to see progress both in business and politics. They don't care so much about the past and are not stuck in the old ways of thinking.

Why are you guys so stuck in the past.......you are not grandpas! Are you?

News / Positive features that distinguish Poland from other countries? [63]

We always complain, you shouldynt take it seuriosly :)

I don't think Poles are the only people who complain.....other Europeans countires also can do this fantastically...
We Americans are just more likely to be sarcastic than to complain outrightly. We love our sarcasm! :)

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

This thread bothers me because so many people seem to think being gay is a choice. That just is not true. You can't make someone be gay or not be gay.

Therapy can't change a gay person....it only makes them feel worse about being something they can't change. I have had gay friends all my life. We have talked endlessly about a lot of issues that gays face. No one would purposely choose a life that entails so much abuse, prejudice, and hate. Gays are regular people for the most part. Like any other group, you will find some members who are extreme or unusual in some way. My friends are rather normal. They have careers, have stable relationships with long-time partners, and are responsible, dependable people. (They just have better art and nicer gardens.)

Now if you want to talk about the "shades of grey" between "gay and straight".....then it gets more confusing.....there is some of everything in the middle! And I find it really interesting that the neither straights nor gays like the "bi-sexuals", cause they are problematic for everybody. Who would have thought there would be such discrimination among gays? Without realizing it, gays who discriminate against bi's bring more disapproval on themselves. They will say "you're not bi, you're just gay and too scared to come out". Then the straights hear this kind of talk and start thinking that a straight person became gay.

Live and let live.....

USA, Canada / The things Polish people do in the US [46]

And if I don't check them, the checkout clerk will...and if they are broken, she will send someone else back to the dairy case to get another carton, and then you have to wait longer. So, be smart...check the eggs. :)
