Love / Don't Polish men fall for British women? [57]

what would a british woman see in an eastern european toilet cleaner ?

What a load of bull, No-Immi - I've found lots of Polish men to be very charming. However I'm not on the lookout cos I'm married :)

UK, Ireland / Polish Music Festival in London (and I'm a bit miffed) [22]

Cheers ZD - the English version was added after I'd made my initial post.

All e-mails regarding my registration and the ratherb restrictive process of picking up the tickets have been in Polish.

No - not at all. I saw Feel live a few months ago (and partied with thye guys afterwards) and loved it. I always try to catch some Polish music on Viva whenebver I'm in Poland.

Hmmm.. I sent an e-mail to the organisers asking how I'm going to pick up my tickets as there's no chance that I'll be able to get to the bank to pick them up on time.... No response as yet...

Love / Advice wanted: meeting Polish girl for the first time [19]

But only with people you know.

Hmm... last time that I did this in Poland, it was with somebody who was a friend of a friend that I'd been out for a quick drink with. Would this have seen a bit too forward / giving the wrong impression etc?

Love / Advice wanted: meeting Polish girl for the first time [19]

Interesting thread - mind if I crash in with another question... In London, I kiss all everyone that I know socially - a peck on both cheeks at the start of a night and then again as I'm leaving.

Would this behaviour be out of place in Poland?

UK, Ireland / Integrating Polish people into the British society [150]

I'd like to see more of it.

I spend a lot of time in Poland on business and have friends there and have just started learning the language. I also know a lot of Poles in London on a professional basis, though to be honest, I don't know any who I could simply call out and invite out for a beer. Which is a shame.

I once got chatting to a Polish guy in a pub, and he was really reluctant to tell me where was from (being vague and saying that he was from Europe LOL!!). Like he was embarrassed by the fact that he comes from Poland. Again, a great shame.

There are some good efforts however - Radio Orla, the Lonodn based internet radio station has shows in both Polish and in English.

My biggest bugbear at the mo is the London Live gig - why are all of the communications in Polish? Did it not occur to the organisers that Non-Poles would also like to attend?

UK, Ireland / Cold and ignorant Polish girls living in the UK [128]

every women gets moody...more or less...sooner or later...

In my case once a month :(

throwing themslves in a persons arms could be called caring

Hmmm... if I were to try that with random strangers in Tesco or on the tube, it could be called weird to say the least.

Tell me mr lemon (coldpole), why are you so bitter?

You could say that he was well-balanced... has a chip on both shoulders.

News / lets say nice things about poland [32]

Hospitality, hospitality, hospitality.... With the exception of the odd hotel receptionist who pulls a face at the thought of having to speak English, I always get a warm welcome in Poland.

My Polish friends seem hell-bent on making sure that I return to London with lots of positive experiences.

I like the food. Although I am vegetarian from what I have eaten here I like it.

I was a veggie for 8 years... but soon turned over to the dark side by some gorgeous veal served with wild mushrooms in Lublin :P

People are relaxed all over the world bar the big capitals

What a load of rubbish.

Travel / Szczecin - small and compact or a sprawl? [14]

lol, Toronto is a big city and it all depends on how people travel to meet and at what time of the day.

It was a mad trip - everything that I needed seemed to be on the junction of Bay and Yonge. My hotel was there too, and I even popped back to my room for a nap between meetings one day :D

Cheers for the tea room tip - there was a brilliant article on Polish tea rooms in Discover Poland magazine not so long ago.

UK, Ireland / POSK, London - what is it like these days? [27]

Aw, that's not the station's fault though, is it? Surely the iPod has to bear some of the blame (iPodować - iPodowam, iPodowasz, iPodowa..., etc heh)

I know, I know... It's just one of those bad-mood inducing stations though. Kings Cross has a similar effect.

Travel / Szczecin - small and compact or a sprawl? [14]

Excellent... I know that I'm asking a bit of a "how long is a piece of string type question"

I once went on a trip to Toronto, and I spaced out all of my meetings so that I had two hours between each 45 min slot.... then I realised that each meeting was taking place pretty much in the the same part of town (but they looked so far away on the map LOL!!), so happy days having a nosey in Roots, drinking far too much coffee and getting my nails done inbetween :))

I will defo come back to you for that tea / coffee recommendation as soon as I've made some more progress with my planning.

Travel / Szczecin - small and compact or a sprawl? [14]

Hi, I am planning a trip to Szczecin and am trying to work out how many meetings I can set up. I know that this is a bit of a how-long-is-a piece-of-string type question, however is it an easy place to get around? Have looked at a couple of maps, but it's really hard to tell.

I kind of liked the tube station though. Curvy.

Urgh!! No - I hate that tube station. Though maybe that's because when I was there last week, my carrier bags ripped and my groceries went everywhere, at the same time I got all tangled up with my iPod and couldn't find my Oyster Card and people were shoving newspapers and flyers at me from every direction.

King Street, St James' - in The City?

No, the main street near Ravenscourt Park that runs along to Hammersmith.

Actually, "polish London" was a disappointment - I expected a larger degree of Polishness.

I agree with you there. I really don't like Hammersmith - I think that it's the architecture that is just depressing. There are some fab little Polish delis along King Street though.

UK, Ireland / POSK, London - what is it like these days? [27]

I was in POSK many years ago

So was I - but I was under the impression that it had changed a bit.

only because it was the G.C.S.E. Polish examination

How old are you Michal? Did you do the GCSE in your youth? I kind of imagined you to be in your 50s or maybe even 60s.

UK, Ireland / POSK, London - what is it like these days? [27]

londonchick,
so why POSK ?
are you polonophil?

I spend a lot of time in Poland - I visit about 7-8 times a year on business and have friends there. As I've become more involved in Poland, I've made quite a lot of London-Polish friends. I'm about to start learning the language very shortly.

LC, I don't know if you've seen this website POSK or if it's helpful to you. :)

Cheers m'dear... yes, I was looking at the snazzy new website earlier today. Seems like they've expanded the jazz aspect.

UK, Ireland / POSK, London - what is it like these days? [27]

Am planning to go there some time in the next few weeks - not been for years. What is it like these days? Has it become more of a jazz venue rather than a restaurant and bar?
