History / How Vanya won the Battle of Grunwald. [18]

was he russian?

He was an American, so there's a big probability he had Russian roots (and the surname Gordon might have derived from e.g. Gordonov).

UK, Ireland / Statistics: How many Polish people in the UK? [23]

British rag papers claim that all Poles (except the North and the South) are in London. So it would be some 39 M from Poland alone, plus over 10 M of Polish diaspora, that makes the total figure of about 50 M Poles in The City alone.

As only the english always laugh at POLISH

The user 'espana' is an evil, twisted Spaniard, not English, although certainly corrupted by his English wife.

UK, Ireland / Survey of Poles in the UK [24]

Only 25 persons liked swans and seagulls; I suppose their population isn't in a significant danger of dying off.

Life / How easy is it to get into trouble with the Police in Poland? [26]

Czarny isn't really a racial slur. It justs means black.

Well, depends on the context.
Sadly, I read that police when approached by black folks who got racially abused generally aren't doing much to tackle with that problem. They just don't want to get involved and make everything to discourage offended people from prosecuting their offenders. It's a real shame.

Why don't YOU force THEM to learn some damn English ? It's nice of you to learn some Polish, but ffs, talking some English in Britain never hurts.

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

i don't actually think there are many anti-polish, they are just confused

Yeah, imho 'a Pole' is a synonym of 'immigrant' for them. As if there weren't others, legal or illegal, trying to get into your country.

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

It's been said and commented hundreds of times in this forum, so it's nothing new in the discussion about Poles in the UK.

Here's my favourite for Chicken Phal. Best served to people you dislike intensely. Only eat yourself if you have an asbestos lined mouth.

Or if your flatmate is an Indian.

History / Is anything but Polish history taught in Polish schools? [50]

aint that the truth brother, though maybe they are better Because of the fee's,ie funding.

Yeah, better paid teachers, smaller classes, better and more of educational aids etc. On the other side students in professional schools aren't generally interested in studying anything that's not connected to their future profession; therefore their rather poor comprehensive historical knowledge.

History / Is anything but Polish history taught in Polish schools? [50]

WOW,now thats what I call comprehensive education :) Was this only in high school or through out your schooling? We touched on the Ancients(ie shiney stuff ) in our primary education then tended to "specialise" in high school.

I was taught it in both primary school (of course in a much more general way) and then 'liceum', guess it's something like grammar school in the UK (in my times primary was for kids between 7-14 y.o, liceum 14-18; now it's different, I'm not sure about it). Liceums are supposed to be for people who 'score better' and aim to continue their education e.g. at universities.

Nah,back to the question,Whats taught, was taught in POLISH schools :) Is there a "national curriculum" or is it down to individual schools, areas etc?

There is a 'national curriculum' and schools have to conform to it. However private schools are considered much better than public ones (which of course is reflected in fees).

History / Is anything but Polish history taught in Polish schools? [50]

I was taught universal history, i.e. from the beginning of civilisation, through ancient Greece and Rome, medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Enlightenment, Romanticism, The Rest Of The XIX Cent. (whatever you call it), I WW, 20 years in-between, II WW, and the rest of modern history. The stress was laid on Poland and Polish people in the course of world history (where applicable) and I guess it should be done with less bias, although being stuck between Germany and Russia (especially the latter nowadays) has never been easy. Now I supplement my historical knowledge by using well-stocked Glasgow libraries. One of the best authors is IMHO Norman Davies who is looking with a sober eye at the II WW.

News / Poland wants $55bln of new roads for Euro 2012 [51]

Poland freely elected a pro Soviet government after World War 2. It was Poland's wish to be absorbed into the new Eastern Europe as was shown by the overwhelming election results.

There's no point on commenting on that. It could only be said by an Homo Sovieticus to the bone.

And btw. Poor road network - virtually no motorways in Poland during communist era - were one of pro-Moscow government methods of hampering communication between people (as well as ridiculously long times of awaiting for phone line, etc).

Poland has done nothing to help itself all through the Communist Era

Because your Sovietskaya Rodina first installed its puppet regime in Warsaw and was sucking out of Poland all it could.

Poland wants to join the E.U

Poland IS already in the EU.

Pal, open your eyes - they will always show 'interesting' things, the ones which will make people buy a newspaper or watch the telly. Things not shown it the TV cease to exist - a good example is Andrew Lepper phenomenon.

Yeah, media are partially to blame - they shouldn't show them so often and make the news of a day with a small group of idiots with shaved empty heads.

as far as doing nothing

I mean they can do nothing (or very little). Our country has also anti-nazi, and anti-xenophobia organisations.

i never said that i thought they were a majority, sorry if i didn't make that clear, however the problems can't be ignored just because they are a minority, as far as doing nothing, i'm not sure the people who are beaten and sometimes killed at football, or kicked out of pubs for being black would agree with you there :)

I think it all will change in time, for Poland has long been a mono-ethnic country, since more and more foreigners may come there (in this case Chinese workers) people will open their minds, at least in some minimal range. Besides such behaviour isn't just exclusive for Poles, mind you.

As for the nazi statement you made, i think your nation has a bigger problem with 'white supremacy' and 'neo nazi's' than we do :). I'm not saying there is not a problem in the UK but as far as the NAZI thing goes you beat us on that scale :)

They're just very small minority, and can just scream loud, but in fact do nothing.

bloody nazi built autobahn

One Nazi Autobahn doesn't change much. And it still needs repairs. One guy even sued the company which charged him for using the motorway (while he had to drive at snail's pace due to all that mess, and that's not the reason for building trunk roads, is it ?) and, guess what, he actually won.

what corrolations are you drawing in the relationship between economy and road networks?

I'm not an economist, but it's obvious to me these are directly connected. I see how developed roads in the UK are, and how far away Poland still is.
