News / Peres: Poland one of Israel's greatest EU allies [30]

peres and kaczynski

When mentioning the Holocaust, Peres said that the greatest tragedy occurred in Poland due to the largest concentration of Jews there; hence the focus of the Jewish pain has been directed at Poland, even though Germany bears and should bear the responsibility.

Regarding the ties between Israel and Poland, Peres said, "We can maintain a positive relationship with the new Poland, and together seek a future of peace, justice and friendship. The new Poland is one of Israel's best allies in the EU."

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

:) It is noticable on this forum as well. When brits are starting losting in conversation they start to use slang and smile to themselves (or much harder to understand version of English language) I think you should accept reality :) or come back home.

History / Is Poland a Southern or Northern European country? [30]

Central Europe is the region lying between the variously and vaguely defined areas of Eastern and Western Europe. In addition, Northern, Southern and Southeastern Europe may variously delimit or overlap into Central Europe. The term and widespread interest in the region itself came back into fashion[1] after the end of the Cold War, which had divided Europe politically into East and West, with the Iron Curtain splitting "Central Europe" in half.

Life / Why is Polka music played in Poland so much different than in the USA? [36]

In America,we listen to Polish music that the immigrants brought over with them. We still sing the same songs today.I was surprised that after joining this group, that every thing in Poland is rock???? What happend to the songs that your fathers sang?. At first I thought that it was just a generation gap. But we still dance to the same old music. Our kids do to.. This is all that they ever knew

I would say that it is not so populart as it was ;). And will never be so popular again. What can be interesting that people form big cities (esp. educated) are more and more interested about Folk music. (of course it is not big phenomenon).

I have seen on old market in Poznan festivals when you can buy traditional food, or see some folk dancers/singers.

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

Maybe USA and England they can do these things , because they are putting first profit and after lifes. But if you havw passed from occupation and fight for your liberation you don't want to be tha same like the one that you were fighting. We have seen if USA is terorist or not, see war with serbia, bombing hospitals and trains.

Our new government takes our soldiers home form Iraq ... and sends more to Afghanistan ...

UK, Ireland / UK recession on the way? [58]

People who are struggling to pay for the basics, like food, warmth and shelter are neither able to afford or be inclined to play the stock market

you know I think more people in Poland are closer to bottom line than Brtish (as to haveing possibility to do business)... so I understand what do you mean. We are going to have slow down in Poland as well. Maybe it is not going to be so drasctic but still ... we are part of world economy.

There is also a school of thought that says that stock market speculators and the like who were intent on dreaming up ever more 'ingenious' debt backed products are more than a little responsible for the current melt down in the financial markets

it is 100% true.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

No, but I'm usually a passenger accompanied by 2 locals, but women. I think they do it because they believe these guys will do sth. It's not every day, but I'm usually there while something is going on and parking is hard to get. I like to use the new underground parking now.

Honestly I think it is unusual, maybe it happens to you. I don't have problems I have Polish numberplates. In the past I used to park my car on French numberplates and it wasn't a problem as well. Maybe you have different expirience ...

don't pay :) and don't worry ;) that is all

is it on Plac Wolnoƛci?where in front of bank entrances

there are so many cameras there ... ;) I wouldn't be worried about my car there ...

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

In Poznan there are a few streets that have free parking (sometimes also at the train station), but if you try to park there you're face to face with a strange looking man asking for zloty to park.

Do you speak Polish fluently ? :)

I've only seen this in Poznan. Has anyone else run in to this situation?

I drive my car everyday and any stranger asks me to pay for parking. Sometimes there are private pakinkings and you need to pay for it, generaly in the centre you pay for parking but not for the strangers ... you pay in machine ...

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

Are the Poles supposed to be considerate and say, 'Ah, no thanks, you already have enough Poles here so I'll look elsewhere'? Come off it!! BRITAIN allowed this, BRITAIN!! They are merely using their options.

agree

Yeah, I'd like to see many of them leave too and contribute to their own national economy but be realistic.

What can UK do ? Leave EU ? no. Only one hope is better situation in Poland or social preasure on imigrants in UK to leave (what we can see now ).

Life / My girlfriend wants to go back to Poland as she thinks lifes better there [36]

(I am going to avoid comments of our emigrants )

(shes an accountant

there is a lot of new international centers build in Poland, where they need accountants. I would say that Poland is changing in to accountatcy center of EU. It is part of our gov strategy to bring investments to create jobs for educated people not for lauborers. Foreign investors are very satified (our accountats are very proffesional) and next comapnies come here.

Your GF has bright future here. and in present time she is not going to have problems with finding well payed job in accountancy.

She is right.
