Language / Things Polish people who speak English language say [180]

i used to say "ree-sipt" instead of receipt

My missus still struggles with receipt/recipe and uses them interchangably.

I also heard a Polish guy ask me to pass him the sisters. He meant scissors.

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

This is why I will never go home.

Its not your home anymore, you've renounced it with your words and deeds. Enjoy wherever it is you are now and try not to feel to much like a 'thief of someone elses land, culture and wellbeing.'

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

:) It is noticable on this forum as well. When brits are starting losting in conversation they start to use slang and smile to themselves (or much harder to understand version of English language)

Slang is a part of every language and you dont realise you're using it even when not 'losting' in conversation.
Theres plenty of words that Brits use that American would consider unnecessary slang which to a Brit are everyday words e.g. fortnight, dodgy etc. I know that as a Midlander I use words in London that people dont always know what I mean even though I thought the word was in national usage but obviously isnt e.g. yampy to describe something/someone whose a bit mad.

I think part of Del Boy's problem might be the problem which alot of foreigners have in Britain and that is the fact that sometimes the humour between people can sound a bit severe and insulting. It isnt intended (mostly) to be offensive but more to test your abilities to laugh at yourself and to be able to comeback with something and not just sit there dwelling on it. I've met some foreigners who never get used to it, and others who eventually grow to love it.

UK, Ireland / Teenagers attack a Polish deli in Trowbridge, UK [27]

I read the bit about a shop window being smashed in a small town in England but I seem to have overlooked the part about impending armageddon and rivers of blood.

UK, Ireland / UK recession on the way? [58]

It's the people in the lower paid jobs, whose livelihoods are going to be at greatest risk.

Phew, thats a relief.

I'll still sack one of the nannies though just in case.

because I feel, like many others, that my home has been taken from me by immigrants who I don't think 'have a right' to be there.

In your eyes what would give a person the right to live in a foreign country?

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

Kilkline, I raise my views as I am a subject of the British Crown. I am a British citizen and unlike Poles, I can vote to change Her Majesty's governments. My opinion is the most important to the government, not a Polish or any other migrant.

You said that the immigrants in your home town 'have no right to be there'. Its just interesting that you believe you have the right to be in Canada though.

Also when you go to Canada are you to be withheld the basic rights and liberties that you think should be denied immigrants to the UK?

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

As far I know, the only profit we got was some pretty war brides the GIs brought home

One example:
abundance.org.uk/the-profits-of-abundance-and-war-sketching-a-history-of-the-american-century-part-iv

The USA plundered the riches plundered by the axis powers and their technological advances, often times appropriating the scientists and engineers involved

Also the USA basically sat back and made huge amounts of capital by
1. supplying food to a Britain that was starving
2. Getting rid of obsolete shipping in exchange for a number of military bases.
3. Selling fuel and steel and other minerals to the Axis forces that were then used to kill their own soldiers, as well as the eastern 'allies'.

Overall the US's position in the world in relation to the other pre-WW2 powers was massively strengthened. Her military and economic infrastructure was strengthened whilst everyone elses was either weakened drastically or destroyed.

So yes, I do think the US made good out of WW2.

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

Now petty insults. Just watch this and wonder if you would like this to be Poland....

Do you think there is an irony in your words though? Do you believe you have greater rights to voice an opinion on Britain than someone who actually lives and pays taxes there?

You also say about your hometown -"Absolutely rammed with foreigners who I believe have no right to be there." What gives a person a right to be there in your eyes?

I imagine Switzerland did alright too ;)

Bunch of w@nkers the Swiss. I dont know how anyone can be proud of being Swiss when their history is not only one of cowardice but of war profiteering and outright thievery. A country whose entire affluence is based on turning a blind eye and not asking why all that gold is in the shape of human teeth.

They're supposed to be rude fukcers too. Though not as bad as the Austrians.

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

OK for the rest of you - Poles (foreigners) come to the UK and the majority get low paying jobs like making sandwiches for supermarkets, picking fruit or assembling boxes in factories. This displaces British labour, no? I contend that the main consumer for these services will not only be the middle classes but the working classes who are being displaced by the influx, since these are price-led sectors.
Therefore, there's no use complaining that Poles etc are displacing working class labour if working class (and middle class) people are paying them to do so. QED

No QED. The services provided are provided by companies for which an individual consumer does not have have the power to select the ethnicity of the workforce. The consumer doesnt make these decisions, the management of the service provider does.

They certainly suffered greater losses of men and women and destruction of infrastructure. The US, on the other hand, had minimal infrastructure losses.

I read that the USA was the only country to come out of WW2 with a profit.

Life / My girlfriend wants to go back to Poland as she thinks lifes better there [36]

Taking into account the higher living costs in the UK, you might both be better off working for a foreign form in Poland....

Is the cost of living in Poland that much cheaper though? I'm no expert but when I've been there lots of things actually seemed more expensive e.g. clothes, electrical goods, second hand cars. My brother in law has just bought a second hand Skoda Fabia for the equivelant of 8-10 months salary.

There is also a non-visual minority which relates to class, gender etc.

How is a minority 'non-visual? Seriously, I've never heard these terms before.

It's nothing to do with insecurities, it's just they wouldn't touch a white girl after she's slept with an asian / black guy - ie. they feel that the girl is sullied a bit of lepar ect.....

Some girls are like this also. I went out with a girl who had gone out with a mixed race guy previous to me but she flipped when I said I'd been out with an indian girl(I hadnt really, I just said it to wind her up- it worked).

She justified herself by saying that mixed race wasnt black.

Develop skills which enable him to do a job which can't be done by cheap immigrant labour?

This is only ever said by people whose particular area of experise isnt under threat.

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

working class people are taking advantage of low price labour and undercutting themselves every time they buy a sandwich from the supermarket.

Can you explain your opinion in a bit more detail? I'm not quite getting the jist of what you mean.

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

the fact is that such behaviour is not accepted in poland so polish guys back home do feel a bit limited so when they come here and find out it`s ok to party hard, they do so.

Oohh, its our fault Poles get drunk and start fights. I see now.

Of course that doesnt explain the Poles that beat up those Canadian tourists I met around the market square in Krakow a couple of years ago. Maybe they thought the Canadians were British and were just trying to make them feel at home?

have you ever seen a polish person getting drunk in a pub and then start fights with people?

Er yes, in London and Poland. I also know Polish guys who are full of stories of their drunk friends acting like tw@ts in west london and ending up in hospital. Defend Poles all you want but dont do it by throwing sh1t at British people.

News / Yitzhak Shamir - prime minister of Israel with anti-polish sentiment [41]

The problem with anti-semites is that nothing Jews can do is ever right. If Jews dont assimilate theyre accused of being sectarian and if they do assimilate they're accused of deliberatly hiding they're true identity for some nefarious purpose.
