Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

That's what I figured. They seemed like they had a system :) Do you think it's because I'm with women? I'm not sure everyone would pay them off.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

Honestly I think it is unusual, maybe it happens to you.

Not only to the car I'm in, but others as well. I see this happening. The only thing is that I can't challenge them because I don't know enough conversational cursing :)

These are obviously people stuck in the past. They use intimidation to get 2 zł out of you so you can feel safe about leaving your car.

I think that either you never try to park here or you just don't choose to see it.

Not 100% of the name, but I know it's right off Św. Marcin. I come into the city from Grundwaldzka and it's on the right hand side maybe 2 blocks after a Bank Pocztowy and across from the University.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

Do you speak Polish fluently ? :)

No, but I'm usually a passenger accompanied by 2 locals, but women. I think they do it because they believe these guys will do sth.

It's not every day, but I'm usually there while something is going on and parking is hard to get. I like to use the new underground parking now.

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

In Poznan there are a few streets that have free parking (sometimes also at the train station), but if you try to park there you're face to face with a strange looking man asking for zloty to park. My gf insists on paying them because she says they can do sth to your car if you don't.

Next time when I park there alone I won't give them anything. If they touch the car, they have trouble :)

I've only seen this in Poznan. Has anyone else run in to this situation?

At least Canada is much, much bigger than the UK, he can be hidden away from society.

Yeah, in Iqaluit :)

(probably Poland) so I don't see how you can complain about anyone living in another country...

Would be funny, huh?

USA, Canada / polish people needing visa to visit usa. [8]

Krzysztof is correct. They require "strong ties" to Poland. My gf was denied the first time, but she didn't have a student ID which helps a lot. She now has a 10 yr visa. I've sent her an invitation letter to bring, but they didn't even look at it. Good luck

Genealogy / POLISH IMMIGRANT NAME-CHANGING [10]

elk is not a moose.. totaly different animals. please look it up before you lecture others next time. thanks

Moose (Alces alces) is the North American name for the largest extant species in the deer family.

The same animal is called the Elk in Europe. The name moose is derived from the Algonquian Eastern Abnaki name moz, meaning "he trims, shaves."

Look before you jump ;)

Life / What kind of antiques are popular in Poland? [49]

Does anyone collect old Polish notes? I have some from 1929-1931-1934-1936 and Russian 1938 German 1937

They probably aren't worth much and I don't think I'd sell them. The artwork on them is fantastic.

My favorite note is:
Some others: (sorry not all PL)

News / Why does Poland love the US? [144]

Franek- Whether you want it or not, you have my thanks. Many of us have lost a family member/s during WW2. My grandfather served in France during this time, and my grandmother manufactured depth chargers in a NY factory.

Most Polish people know that USA isn't our potnential enemy and in a lot of cases can be helpful.

See Lukasz, that wasn't so hard ;)

The American "people" as a whole, do care a lot about helping others and making sacrifices to help out in any crisis. Unfortunately, I can't say that our government has done anything positive (lately) in foreigners eyes, so we aren't liked by anyone now. Our president has a whopping 20-30 % approval rating. Worst in History.

Expatriot..where did you go? I'd like to enjoy some more laughs before the day's end.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Only the British go?

Is it legal?

Definitely not only British. I've recently watched a documentary about the child sex industry in Tailand and Cambodia. They were secretly documenting an American Dr. in Cambodia, and the extremely young (5 +) being sold to mainly Americans and Brits. It's a shocking reality.
