Did General Kriskrosnowski really exist?

Hi. I'm doing some research, and came across someone named "General Kriskrosnowski" c. 1870. Is that even a Polish name? Could they have confused it with something that sounded similar?

Krasnowski or Krzyszkowski is more likely

I'm not too bad with Polish history but never came across that name. Kris might be a nickname (they were often used by soldiers) and Krosnowski sounds like a Polish last name.

It's safe to say Questioner was just passing by. Not worth the effort.

Krzyżanowski?

Well, I think it’s safer to say Questioner (me) is a bit of a dumb cluck, and couldn’t figure out how to post a reply, only the original thread. In fact, Polonius3 nails it. The guy I was looking for was Włodzimierz Krzyżanowski, this fellow:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W%C5%82odzimierz_Krzy%C5%BCanowski (they made me remove the first part of the web addy as I am a newbie here)

Thanks very much to all who replied, especially Polonius3… if you had a sec, can anyone give me a heads-up on how to pronounce his name? Thanks again.

Uhm, sorry about that. Let me put the link up.

I see his memoires were published in the USA. Chopin's cousin.
