Tracing my Kuszniewicz fathers roots

My fathers name was Jan Wladyslaw Kuszniewicz and was born in woj Stanislawow in Rudniki Poland on the 10th July 1920. he served as a bombardier in the army, his parents were Adam and Katarzyna Kuszniewicz, his father being a police officer. i only have several of his army certificates, one being to do with Monte Cassino, Italy and other medal certificates.we are visiting Poland for the first time in December 2006 and would like to know were the best place would be to make inquiries there, any idea,s would be great, we will also be visiting Auschwitz among other places.
