My ancestors were named Buckiewicz and came to the USA in 1901 from Suwalki. Does anyone know if there is a Buckiewicz still living in Suwalki? If so, I would like to contact them.

I did some research in that region a few years ago and I might still have some contacts there. Contact me t.szymkowiak@genealogytour.com or office@genealogy tour or simply using a form at our website genealogy.

Polonius3, Thank you for that.

I am hoping that some of those people are my ancestors, but I am at a loss as to how I could contact them. I have many questions about them that stem from old family stories. Unfortunately, my 88 year old father is the last Buckiewicz left here. He was one of ten children, the youngest, and all family records were lost many years ago. He too would like to know a few things.

You can try contacting: Wydział Udostępniania Informacji (a Polish govt agency)
ul. Domaniewska 36/38
02-672 Warsaw
tel. 0-00 48 22 601-1839

The problem is you have to specify a person by first and last name, then they ask him/her whether they wish to be contacted. I don't know how good they are about answering enquiries.

Another option is a private genealogical researcher, for instance:

Sorry, no. I am not fluent nor am I literate in Polish.

Wondering if any of these Buckiewicz names ring a bell...

Konstanty, Bronislaw, or Wincenty- all long lost relatives, all from Suwalki long ago.

Would it be possible to track the Buckiewicz family in Suwalki through the Catholic parishes there? Can anyone help me with contact information for the Catholic churches in and around Suwalki?

a list of churches in Suwałki. I think it would be more effective if you visited them personally.

Indeed, a personal visit would be most desirable and advantageous. Sorrowfully, it is beyond my means to do so at this time. Additionally, as I stated above I am sadly neither fluent in the Polish language nor literate in the Polish word. Thus, I am restricted to working in my native English. The link you provided me will help me not. Thank you for the kind thought.

Nonetheless, I would still like to obtain any contact information available for the Catholic parishes in the Suwalki area.
