Is this a common Polish name?

Yes, I think it could be Polish name.

I think yes but to be honest I think it comes form Samborowski, and "a" has been changed into "i" because of English pronaunsietion.

thanks that is really helpful. Asearch on google brings up much more info with your spelling .
Does anyone else know anything about this name?
I mean is it a common name like smith or Jones?.....

It most certainly is a Polish name - my father was born in Warsaw and was most definitely Polish and proud of it! It is not an incorrect spelling as one correspondent suggests. Some of our family have the name Szymborski so it seems to be a 'Russianized' version of that name. It is not common - I have never encountered anyone else with it except members of our own family though there are some famous people called Szymborski (notably Wyslawa Szymborska - and she is not related to us as far as I know).

There are 30 Simborowski's (all but 1 in Warszawa region) and 133 Samborowski's in Poland
