Help with the name "Littman".

I dont know to much about my polish side of the family as my mom divorced after 2 yrs.The last name is Littman which to me sounds jewish!My mom said no that theyre roman catholic.I have a hard time understanding such an unusual last name!My mom is 100% slovak and the customs and cooking is quite similar.I look forward to ivestigating this site theres alot to see!Deb

The last name is Littman which to me sounds jewish!My mom said no that theyre roman catholic.

Some jews switched religions not to face persecution, so just because she's roman catholic, the grandparents, or great grandparents could have been jewish. Do your research, try finding baptismal records.

Do a name search at: JewishGen

The name appears in Poland and one or two other places. It also appears with slight spelling differences. You will also see where it occurs in Poland.

You will have to register at JewishGen to do a name search. It's free.

BTW. Some Polish meals have Jewish origins. So don't be fooled by family recipes

Thanks I will check those out...as for cooking and customs I meant the slovak part which I was raised...
