True. But they will cease to exist as a species. They will not need to be replaced.

What's the point of switching to vegetarian food besides the hope for animal cruelty elimination anyway?

Simply not liking meat. The taste the texture. I've never really liked it. I stopped eating it when I realized to only times I did was when travelling and people insisted I try some local speciality with meat.

The treatment of animals is also a consideration, but it's also possible to by 'free range' meat that comes from animals. Of course, it's more expensive, but I wonder if more people buying it would be more productive towards changing things than not eating meat at all would do since vegitarians are not part of the target audience of sellers.

But we are omnivores........being vegetarian is an unnatural state.....

Substitute 'vegan' for 'vegetarian' there and I would agree with you.

There are amino acids in animal products which are unavailable elsewhere. Vegans strictly eat no animal products whatsoever, where as vegetarians will eat eggs, dairy products, or even fish.. depending on how they define themselves.

cs1973, I don't know about veggie restaurants in Poznan, but I know GreenWay, as we have it in Warsaw too. I would not call it expensive (around 8-12 PLN per dish) and they offer quite a variety. That's not Ritz, but not bad either ;)

If you live outside of USA you may not understand the downsides to eating American raised beef, poultry and pork. What they feed these animals and inject them with are not materials that you want to be putting down your own throat. I stopped eating all of it over 10 years ago and am a very healthy person without it.

[Moved from]: Vegetarian or Ethnic Foods in Wroclaw?

I'm staying in Wroclaw and I've tried much, especially at the Rynek. This isn't a complaint. I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I can find a Vegetarian restaurant or Indian or Iranian or some other kind of ethnic food in Wroclaw? Thanks!

80% of the world is dominantly vegetarian, with meat being a rare delicacy. Not eating red meat past the age of 30 or so can spare you from all sorts of bowel problems, cancers, including colon and prostate. Not to mention the variety of sexual dysfunctions tied to red meat diets in men. Impotence, seminal issues, etc.

I love polish meat dishes, but I find my fam indulges in them far too often for their own good.

Please, once you're in Polska, spread the veggie-diet love amongst the adults. There are lots of AMAZING polish vegetarian dishes, yet Poles react awkwardly when presented with the label "vegetarian."

very true and quite tasty as well. I am also vegetarian. My favorite is vega at kino femina. I give polish people a lot of credit. although they may not be vegetarian they still are happy to go eat at a veg restaurant. I know a few vegetarians who were not able to be veg until they left their home due to their mothers forcing them to eat meat. I even know one girl whose mother would mix meat in with her veg food...

Here is vegetarian food which you can have in Poland and they are popular national dishes. Tasty!

and a few others whose photos I don`t possess.

However, why don`t you give Polish sausage a try? You will be positively amazed by its taste

Hello!

If it was up to my boyfriends mothers cooking we would eat red meat every day, shes a propper polish housewife and she cooks her socks off all day.

I however am from london and I much more partial to things like vegitable stirfry, light soup dishes from wagamama and generaly eastern flavours. I was also a vergitarian for 8 years but began eating meat when i became ill due to my diet.

My suggestions are: pierogi, the things you discribed as 'pasta things' (i know you already said you don't like them) but i find them much more palatable if there boiled and then fried because then there lovely and crisp, not all floppy and rubbery, blergh. The poles know a good soup. Soup here is awsome. Salads are great. Im lucky to live in a nice cosmopolitain city where i can get chinese, indian, thai etc but it sounds like your a bit more rural, bet you can find a nice italian? good soups, pastas, salads, side dishes. If you speek enough polish you can ask for dishes to be made without the meat...

just suggestions, hope iv helped....maby not!

hmm perhaps because we are vegetarians... meat is nothing more than an animal that has been murdered

I'm vegetarian and living in Warsaw. Thing are really pretty easy! There is a big vegetarian community. You can find restaurant which offer vegetarian possibilities, self with only vegetarian specialities, or vegan bars. In the shop, you can find organic food, soya flour, soya pellet, soya milk and yoghurt, tofu is available nearly evrywhere. The soya milk is even supplemented with B12 and Calcium. I don't know about your town but Warsaw is great!

I really recommend Green Way. It's cheap, tasty and nourishing. I can eat my fill there for around 10 zł though, in general, I eat quite a lot.
