I'm English, living in Poland, and I need to buy some Cream of Tartar, which is used to make a creamy consistency in sweets and deserts , not to be mixed up with Tartar Sauce used with steak etc

Please can anyone tell me what it's called here? Thank you

cream of tartar = "winian potasu" or "Kamień winny", (E336) - unlike UK, where you can buy it in supermarkets only some pharmacies carry this product in Poland (you have to ask around) but more commonly used is "amoniak do pieczenia" which you can buy in stores.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I'm in a village called Rzepin, the nearest city is Slubice, on the border with Frankfurt Odra Germany.

Thanks also to Piorun, I will go to the village Apteka with a list :)

Also not to be mixed up with steak tartare. Yes both have capers and gherkins...but tartar sauce is a lighter version turned into an almost mayonaise consistency to go with fish. Not steak.

Yours Sincerely
Pedant

Seems like some vegetarian stores are carrying it. So you might give that a try if there is any where you live. You can see it here: evergreen.pl/winny-kamien-40g-p-403.html
