When I was in Kraków (around Easter time I think) I had some really nice cake which I still lay awake at night dreaming of. It looked like the bottom left hand corner of the photo above, but with yellow sponge and it came in squarish slices. Does this ring any bells with anyone, is it really called Easter Cake (available only at Easter?), recipies anyone...
Multi-coloured Easter Cake
MAZUREK
Thanks Piorun. Maybe it wasn't Easter cake then... the top photo (which looked like the cake I had) was tagged as Easter Cake on the internet. It had small pieces of coloured sugar in it.
Traditionally there are two. One is Babka Wielkanocna more popular of the two and the other is Mazurek mentioned before, so it could have been called Easter Cake.
Here's another example.

Thanks for the clue Piorun. It looked more like this picture...
but square slices... and more colorful.

Sausage? have you ever tried a polish cake called "sekacz". it could be made of even 40 eggs and is .... bobby dazzler!! :)
sekacz
nope, never tried it. Just googled it, looks very interesting!
Mazurek has many forms....topped with various nuts and fruits, or made of chocolate (looks divinely yummy)
Thanks shopgirl (or cakeshopgirl?). I'll have to get my chef's hat on or take the lazy man's option and make sure I'm in Poland at Easter.
I know it looks strange but tastes good!
