that is what I had in the kitchen. LOL.

If you eat this 'zapiekanka" that often you would get bored with it. Are you a Gemini by any chance?

how do you make yours??:

Start off with basting a saucepan with lard, put in a layer of potato (enough to cover the bottom), a layer of onion, followed by a nice sprinkle of salt and pepper, carrots, beetroot (from the jar, because Im too lazy to cook real beetroot), sausage meat (tonight I went with kiełbasa myśliwska, some other polish sausage and a frankfurter), topped off with another layer of potato. Capped off with some losely placed lard on top. Cook for 45-55 mins, tasty!!!!!!

No Im a Pisces, why do you ask pray tell?

No Im in Ireland, Dublin. Although I was in Kraków last week, but I didnt eat this fine dish there it was given to me by a girl in work earlier this week. She lives about an hour away from there, I had some local Warsawa dish for lunch, not as nice as this though.

Poor Edward

you can put some cheese on the top.

Thats what I was thinking, but does the cheese melt? I figured cos it was only on the pan on top of the potato the cheese wouldn't melt, only turn into a goo.

in recipe i see that you can put cheese on potatoes and it's gonna be fine. remember also about bacon and mushrooms in your zapiekanka.

your polish is getting better and better so you can try to translate this recipe for zapiekanka:)

Basically vinegar

They don't use vinegar in polish pickles. just salt, garlic, dill and water.

just salt, garlic, dill and water.

my grandma adds also the horseraddish and the oak leafs ( she said it's to make pickles tough).

no, not pierogi... krokiety & barszcz czerwony...

Krokiety are Polish crepes filled with cooked sourkraut, mushrooms and fried onion .They taste great served with red borsch (barszcz czerwony) on the second picture
