Ok

(me being ginger!) but what do you have to accompany Golabki?

I bought some from the local polish shop along with some other bits of food but what do you eat with it??

cheers

cabbage doesn't match too good with potatoes, so I support

only bread

Polish bread. I agree. You wouldn't eat potatoes with them, 'cos they are a full meal on their own and potatoes don't really go with them.......it's not english food lol....i.e. potatoes wiv two veg and meat <g>

:)

correct answer !

You'd never see a real Pole eating golabki with potatoes ..... maybe bread .... but usually on their own ..... classically with a tomato sauce (not ketchup !)

thinking of golabki has started me salivating ....... o)))))) ........ wasn't hungry a few minutes ago ... but now !!!

really?

maybe it depends on the region of Polska you come from ?

I have been eating Golabki since i had teeth ..... in Poland and here in England, and never have golabki been served with potatoes :o)

Must be a regional thing do you think ?

Filling is rice and meat so adding potatoes as a side dish would be to much. We never, ever had potatoes with them........but maybe some do then ?

Yeah, it might depend on the region of Poland. I come from Galicia (Kieleckie) but lived mostly in Western Poland (Lubuskie, Wroclawskie). I had golabki with bread only a few times, and only because I ran out of potatoes.

Probably depends on the proportions. Too much rice might make the whole meal too starchy indeed. But if it is mostly meat then there is really no difference between golabki and ground beef/pork, which definitely goes well with potatoes.

You could have chips wiv 'em.........lol

Agreed. But, ours were roughly half rice and half meat wrapped in cabbage leaves and then baked in the oven (0bviously meat, rice and cabbage cooked on stove first)

:)

Was meant as a joke........was just trying to inject a bit of humour :)

I think my Mum's family were from a similar area to the one you mentioned before (can't see your post to confirm that) My Dad's family were from Warsaw. My Mum and Dad did produce different dishes lol, they both could cook well :)

I was Uk born but Polish parents, grandparents etc etc and raised as a polish person here in UK :)

It's interesting about the food though. I asked someone if they had ever had 'Bitki's but they hadn't . Did you have them ?

mine in a tin in my cupboard to eat over the weekend or beginning of the week :)

Am not sure if the tinned ones are the same as the fresh ones ?

Think they taste a lot different. They are really easy to make though :)

about potatoes - do you like them with tomato sauce? they don't match either, at least in my opinion (maybe chips + ketchup) so it's another point against gołąbki z ziemniakami.

And it's not regional, in my house we ate potatoes with virtually everything (my dad even likes boiled, mashed potatoes (no spices) with milk, as a milk soup! yuck), and still they agree that gołąbki are with bread.
