hello everybody!

I applied for a job in Warsaw and I've been asked for an interview. The job is advertised by a recruitment agency, told to be in a big international company and requires also the knowledge of two foreign languages other than Polish(not impossible maybe but not very easy to find) + English.

as I don't live in PL I would have to travel more than 1600 km one way and spend a lot to sit interview in Warsaw I asked if they cover transport cost, the answer was negative.

I know in similar situations travel costs are covered. Would not covering such expense be a common practice in Poland? Was somebody in similar situation?

thanks!

If they want you, they'll pay.

But knowledge of 3 foreign languages isn't uncommon in Poland - I have a friend who can function in four, 2 fluently.

Not just travel costs. Hotel too. It's just an agency, right? What if you don't get the job? As a callow youth I travelled from Edinburgh to Madrid on my own penny for an interview. Didn't get it; felt very silly.

explain this to the company and ask to do an interview by phone.

some companies do do phone interviews at the first level.

The job is advertised by a recruitment agency,

Those agencies do not spend a penny for applicants's travel costs, hotels etc but if you are selected by the client they represent THEY will make money if your application is chosen!( the equivalent of several months of pay)

Just avoid recruitment agencies if you do not yet live in the country where the job interviews take place and cannot afford all these costs, it is a waste of time and money unless the job is highly paid.

They surely should give at least a stipend but usually they don't because they have tons of applicants so they do not care
