Can a sole trader employ himself (or have staff) in Poland?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.

So, I would like to start a business as a sole trader and I would need to employ other staff. Can I also employ myself? Can I pay myself? One person I met here said that the only compensation I could get is the possible profit deriving from the business. Is that true?

I don't know the law but the common sense tells me that it's not possible - doesn't make sense

It's possible, even normal, however it's called drawings rather than salary. A sole trader can have a trading bank account and draw whatever he chooses, or just use his own account.

Thanks!

So, just to make it clear to myself: I can choose to pay myself let's say 3,000PLN/m and I withdraw that in cash from the company account. When doing the accounting, under which voice that withdrawal goes? Is it a salary? A business expense?

It's a drawing. You still have to declare money received into the business account as income though - to an extent it depends on which of the two tax options you choose however you have to pay up in the end. By the way, it isn't a company.

All right. It is not a legal person, rather a physical one. Sorry, I am not familiar with this terminology.

The word company is misused a bit - to be a company it needs to have several partners or shareholders.

For a sole trader, you do need to register but the most important thing is to get a very good bookkeeper who is up to date with regulations and the various claimable allowances (they do change quite often).

Merged: Employ yourself in your own company

I had a few conversations about this topic and I am surprised about what I was told.

- If I start a company (Spzoo), can I employ myself and pay myself a salary? This seems to be a standard procedure in many countries, but I was told that in Poland I can only pay myself through the profit of the company.

- Do you guys have any experience in regard to such a matter?
