Poland - gift for my boss and coworkers first day in the new job

Can someone help me out with a cultural question.

I am starting a new job and I wanted to take a gift for my boss and coworkers for the first day.

Will this be considered strange or problematic? What will the Polish coworkers think of this?

FYI: I will be going to Poland for the first time as a teacher. I was going to bring some food items from another country. My boss will be picking me up at the airport, so I feel thankful as this is on her rest day.

Sorry, I couldn't find any information on this specific question.

@xolo

Bringing something inexpensive like cookies or such to share with the team on your first day is not going to be a problem, and would be appreciated. Giving anything of more than nominal value would be considered weird.

I think bringing some small snacks for co-workers and a separate small symbolic gift (not too elaborate or expensive) for the boss that's picking you up are both fine.

Aghh that is so weird. I will never get used to it.

A box of chocolates (not too expensive) or some treat (again not expensive) from your home country would be fine. Do not under any circumstances bring a present for your boss. Not unless you want your new colleagues to hate you.

Well you give the present to the boss after they've delivered you from the airport to where you're staying (or later one on one) you just don't give it to the boss in front of everyone else.

A good idea. I'd personally (and I'm after a mega favor from my boss right now) thank him/her by text message for picking me up (a thank you is always appreciated) give the present after the first day's work, and yes, definitely not in front of staff. It should be a (very) modest present from the OP's home country.

A lot also depends on the institutional culture (which largely depends on the person running things). In some workplaces (like mine) Polish employees don't really resent foreign employees and are willing to overlook lots of minor faux pas from not knowing the culture (yet). In others.....

Thank you, everyone, for your input.

Yes, indeed the planned gift is cookies. I just wanted to make sure it seemed ok, from an objective person's point of view.

Cheers
