Do Poles and EU Citizens exploit the British welfare state

It was pretty much the NUM's fault - their leader had openly declared that he intended to bring the Government down, the workers themselves did no-one any favours by resorting to violence towards "scabs" and so on.

What people seem to forget is the power that the union had over politics - this is what Thatcher declared war on, not the industry itself. Exactly the same battle will be had with Solidarność in years to come.

Yes Polish exploit the british welfare system, they are all jumping on the band waggon of getting pregnant for tax credits/benefits................none of these people ever contemplated having children until they came to the uk ....and the truth is there are more polish births in the uk than in poland ....AND THAT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF THE FACT OF BENEFITS AND NOTHING MORE.

How many times now have you heard about Polish or Romanian or some other eastern european gang who have extorted millions out of the british state,if the government told the truth instead of covering up for their own immigration fiasco , then there would not be a need for all these losses of jobs and cuts in services, the whole thing backfired on the polish coming here and taking advantage because most lost their jobs as i told them they would. My view is that these cutbacks are a direct result of the heavy burden that immigrants and asylum seekers etc have put on the uk .Its not poland fault that they have a rubbish closet communist government who wont pay good rates of pay etc, but its also not other countries responsibility to bail out foreign people who dont have work or are low paid...........THIS IS THEIR OWN GOVERNMENTS PROBLEM and its time that all other governments took responsibility for their own countries people instead of trying to use other countries governments to medicate their people .

Closed communist government? That's absolute garbage, wolf! PO have increased the gap between the rich and the poor, they are no communists.

Quite a few did extort money right enough and I've heard Poles admit it firsthand. Why? Because they told me that they felt Britain owed them for the betrayal from WW2.

I also take your point about the Polish government needing to hike up salaries. Yes, they are incrementally rising as GUS stats show but nowhere near in line with inflation. Poland is a credit culture to an extent. Yes, like many others but debt levels may be high if people don't have the means to pay off various things.

,AS I READ THAT THEY WERE TO BLAME FOR THE START OF THIS WHOLE IMMIGRANT FREE FOR ALL AND THAT WAS WRITTEN BY A JOURNALIST .....................

anybody can be a "journalist" it means nothing, it's just somebody's opinion that happened to get published.(and it sounds like a pretty dumb opinion) British government made the policies, nobody else.

yeh I think alot of people exploit the British welfare state, so what? Any system is open to exploitation.

ED THE NED ..........................YOU ARE DEBATING BECAUSE YOU ARE IN DENIAL . Once again you see point the finger responses to what i say .The Polish were the first to come here over 5 years ago and show contempt and disrespect for everything(THIS ATTITUDE WAS ALL SELF GUILT BASED). ........they knew what they were doing when they came here and ive had not one single drop of evidence or sentiment to prove otherwise that they are selfish greedy self possessed people .A prime example of this was when my partner lost her job and got overdrawn at the bank etc etc, it was not my responsibility to pay for her debts but i did and her family(with their 2 cars/20 mobile phones/4 laptops/flatscreen tvs etc etc) were going to send money to help ....AND THEY DID NOTHING......ZERO ............AND THIS JUST PROVED TO ME YET AGAIN WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE THESE PEOPLE ARE .I remember some girls i once helped and they both had fulltime jobs and they were trying to wriggle out of paying rent etc , they bought their own shampoos and toiletries etc but didnt use them(USED MINE INSTEAD).................THIS IS THE LEVEL OF GREED AND DECEPTION RELATIVE TO POLISH PEOPLE.Even the last time i was in poland in the family home, i would buy something that i needed for my personal hygiene and 2 days later i would go to use it and it would be empty ................TOO GREEDY TO BUY THE PRODUCT BUT FAST USE IT FOR YOU .

WB, let the man speak. Everyone has their story to tell and the Mods can step in at any time. I know what he is talking about with regards to skimping on payments. Also with shampoos and other stuff (I know this well). Don't knock the man for speaking some truth. Just let it stay that way without him overgeneralising. Poles exploit the welfare state to some extent but, then again, so do many others.

No, WB, as this guy writes longer posts. Besides, he is talking about exploitation rather than just trash talking Poland without justification.

There are about 14,000 Polish in the U.K on unemployment benefits, while there are about 5 million British born citizens on unemployment benefits.

So, nearly 10% of Brits are on unemployment benefits, while, about 2% of Polish in the U.K are on unemployment benefits.

Well it's my country, so even if there was one Pole taking unemployment benefits, it's one too many! Please leave the UK and return to Poland to collect your unemployment benefits in your own country.

Cheers!

Working-age out-of-work benefit recipients
GRAPHS ON THIS PAGE:

5.3 million working-age people were in receipt of an out-of-work benefit in February 2011. Of these, 2.6 million (49%) were sick or disabled, 1.4 million (27%) were unemployed and 0.6 million (12%) were lone parents.

These Polish pay taxes into the system, why aren't they entitled to the same rights as British tax payers?

You sound anti-Polish.

I I bet you don't have an issue with Africans, and Pakistanis on benefits, as long as they were born in the U.K?

It's not a taboo, sure Poles exploit the generous British welfare system.
Per example, Polish mothers have more children once they come to Britain than in their homeland, they are the most fertile national group in the UK, well before Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis. It sounds very odd that the welfare system is for something.

Meantime in Poland population is decreasing partly because of emigration, but also because of low birth rate - too low to renew the actual population of Poland.

If Poland had to have a true welfare state, I believe that demographic and emigration problems would be solved.

they are the most fertile national group in the UK

This is partly because of the poor condition of the welfare state in PL as well as support for families and the poor schooling. The UK is a relatively easy place to live.

poor schooling.

What poor schooling in Poland?

Poland scored one of the highest PISA scores in all of Europe, overall beating the U.K, Germany, France, Russia, Norway,Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and Ireland ect.

keep on topic please

That doesn't reflect reality - you can't trust official statistics here and access to (and quality of) education is something cited as very positive by migrants to the UK.

In PL, school textbooks have to be bought by the parents.

There's also genuinely free healthcare and a social safety net that makes the UK attractive to people from other regions in the union.

2.2.million unemployed; 6.8%

The vast majority of people who received unemployment benefits were sick, and disabled, as was outlined in my article.

If you didn't know, the 2.2 million unemployed figure, only includes people who are out of work, and who are looking for work.

Your article, even admits that 30.43 million British were employed, so what happened to the other 30 million or so?

You are lumping them all together, which is misleading. If I am permanently and severely disabled, I'm not unemployed in the conventional sense because I'm not going to get a job, ever.

Your article, even admits that 30.43 million British were employed, so what happened to the other 30 million or so?

The elderly, children, etc.

as was outlined in my article

No link to an up-to-date, reputable source was provided.

Tamarisk, it's funny you are worried about Polish people living on benefits but you don't care about the unemployed British claiming British benefits living in Krakow and probably other cities in Poland and spending all the benefits money on food, drinks and living in Poland? how patriotic.
jon357 63 | 14,255
15 Jun 2014 #119
Does anyone do that? I thought that for unemployment benefit people had to go and sign in person. Plus all the various interviews. Hard to do that from Krakow, even on Ryanair.

Could be an interesting story in this if true. Please tell us more.
