I might be biased, but my impressions are rather opposite: terrible roads (hard to drive around), bad architecture, not well maintained and I didn't feel it's that friendly. Nothing interesting there, maybe the wine festival.

that and maybe the "deptak" (pedestrian mall) and the local motorcycle dirt track racing Go Falubaz!

I liked their renovated old town. There is also quite nice greenhouse over there.

it is not too big and not too small, but it is on the smallish side. As far as I know not much is going on there, but it is close enough to Poznan and Berlin.

Oh, you mean "Palmiarnia", The Palm House, which actually evolved from a greenhouse established in 1961 around the 140 years old Wine House (a storage for wine tools and barrels) - with beautifully decorated cafe and restaurant and dance parties on Fridays and Saturdays till 3 am - tickets in the range of 25-80 PLN.

[I have never been there, just read about it here, palmiarnia.zgora.pl :-)]

Zielona Gora - What's there?

Not much. A good microbrewery though and vineyards that produce German white wine.

Merged: Recommendations for bars/pubs and restaurants in Zielona Gora

I am looking for recommendations for restaurants and bars/pubs in Zielona Góra I will be living hear for a few months and it would really be helpful to know of one or two good places to visit socially. I believe there is a good Chinese restaurant which is worth a visit, so any feedback would be useful.

Thanks for any responses it is much appreciated.

There's a really nice pub with a microbrewery right in the middle of the town centre. I forget the name, but you can't miss it.

Lots of clubs and pubs. Cinema City. Palm House with parties every weekend. Cool "deptak". Top notch speedway. Top notch basketball (Champions of Poland twice in 3 years and vice once currently beaten Panathinaikos Athens in Euroleague). Very nice Water Park with the longest pipe in Poland. Roads are much much better than the poster above have said. I'm from Zielona Góra. Beautiful and clean town with lots of parks.

Additionally "Winobranie" every year. It's a festival of wine with lots of attractions like music bands, bungee jumping, rollercoasters etc. It lasts for 9 days in September and you can drink wine even in public during that time :)

I can only find one Chinese restaurant called Pekin. Here are the Tripadvisor reviews:

Yes! That name rings a bell, and I can really recommend it.

When we were there we went to a couple of other places that were nothing to remember and one fairly decent cafe (with alcohol) to the left of the station that was quite nice but Haust really stood out.

My wife is from ZG and I know it pretty well.

Like most Polish cities there are many pizza places. My top 3 are Papa Pizza, Pizza Pi and Gioconda.

The Indian restaurant near the rynek/deptak is also very good.

Your must also try Bar Turysta right access from the PKP station.

I liked that one. Very hearty food, very cheap. I'm pleased to hear it's still open.

What about the pizza places? Any like in Italy or the ... Polish way with no tomatoes but with ketchup?
