What to do in Zakopane for New Year? ( staying in a ski resort but unfortunately no snow )

So....the wife and I are in Poland and we are booked into a place in Zakopane for 5 days over New Year. Given that there is no snow and hurricane force winds it's all looking a bit glum. Does anybody have any thoughts on what else to do now that we are booked into a ski resort with no snow. Snowmobiling has obviously gone out the window.

Also what about New Year's Eve. Heard its excellent hence why we booked it but can't find much info on any events taking place. Anybody know at all?

Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm thinking they'll open as much as they possibly cand, by way of activitoes and enterntainment - captive audience combined with wanting to come out of this as well as possible. Things like the acqua park will be busy, mind.

Hey both. Thanks for your replies so far. Will check out the link above too. Warszawski, would we need to book a place at the above or can we just turn up early?

Also we did Krakow back in 2008 and Brenna in 2011, both of which had stages outside with bands playing live music etc. does anything like this get setup in Zakopane?

Ohh man thats bad news, they dont have snow canons in Zakopane do they?

Reminds me of a similar holiday i took in PL years ago to a sea resort when it was cold and p1ssed down with rain the entire time.

Very common, but it needs to below freezing to operate.

Zakopane isn't much of a ski resort, I tried to go skiing there for Christmas. 3-4 hour queue to get the lift to the summit, all foot tourists, no skiers.

Do you have a car?

If so, I suggest this place: termabialka.pl . It is a short drive from Zakopane. We welcomed 2013 there. Plus, it is right next to a ski resort. I just checked their web cams, and they have snow. In the same area, you can also rent a snow mobile. This is my video from last year:

Ahhhh maaaaan. Looks awesome. Already booked in for 5 days now in Zakopane. We do have a car, 4wd with winter tyres, so happy to drive over in the now. What's the traffic like between the two towns. We heading down to Zakopane late at night to avoid the traffic jams so wondering if there will be jams between the two places? Once there we hadn't intended leaving haha.

JohnB121: yeah seen the news......also spoke to the owners of our apartment. Apparently it hasn't blown down yet so it's all still on.

Well they seem to be operating in Bialka Tat

Depends in which part of Zako you are staying in 20-30 mins drive normally just put Bialka Tatrzanska in your sat nav.

Enjoy.

Head down to Białka - I was snowboarding there last week and the conditions were good! If not to ski then only to go to the thermal swimming pools.

However if you only want to ski and you have a car, there are a few options! Have a look at this link and it shows you where are open:

Harenda and Małe Ciche are places we like to go.

Good luck!
