Hi all,

I'm due to visit Katowice for a few days from the 13th November to meet a friend....

due to University commitments amongst other things, I don't trust her to look after me!!

I'm a 27 yr old guy....jus looking to enjoy my few days...dont mind how, gallaries, museums, bars...so the whole mix really...without being too expensive....and obviously hope to meet some nice people.....

any suggestions would be really great!!

thank you!!

A very interesting tour in Katowice is the crazy communist tours, it's good for a laugh.

Seconded - I've done the Nowa Huta one in Krakow.

I recommend going to Kracow main market square, there are trams running there all the time, although you'd wanna check out when the last one is.

I also echo that - go have a few meters of beer in CK Brouwar ;)

Handbrake-turns in a trabi LOL!!

Seriously, the steel-works were impressive. The tour is also quite sociable, so not really for people who keep themselves to themselves. Mr LC and me being driven around Nowa Huta by a very knowledgeable young chap who knew his history. We stopped off at various interesting points, including a cafe, where he showed us photos from the communist era and talked about his own experiences of family life in the 80s.

Excellent value for money - well worth doing of an afternoon.

***edited to add - I don't work for them LOL!***

I forgot to take my medication......NURSE!!
POP...POP..FFFFfffffiiizzzz.....

OK, that's better.

Yes, I went, i just waited for a mate to come over, did i not tell you??
We had a great time, we did the "luxury communist tour", I even find the name hilarious.
I would recommend it to everyone, I think these guys are very clever, turning communism on it's head and making a bob.
Well worth the ride.
I'll post the link here [crazyguides.com]

I don't work for them either, just think it is worth seeing, not your average tour

Excellent - good to hear that it's still a good one. The guy that drove us around seemed like a genuinely nice guy.

Yeah very active and lively, it is really interactive.
There are a few guys who do it by the looks of the website.
I see a lot of tourists in Krakow being driven around in electric carts as they listen to tape recording of the history of such and such who was born in such and such

, no interaction at all and no action, crying shame.

Yiiiikes!! those are the kind of thing that I try to avoid, wherever I am.

I went on the Nowa Huta tour on my first visit to Krakow last year. The funniest bit was when the guide waited til we were doing 40 mph to tell us that a wheel came off the Trabant about once a month. A lot of fun as well as being informative, and I could tell he enjoyed his job. I laughed when I saw Michael Palin going on the same tour (not with the same guide though).

As regards Katowice, I've been twice. Once for a long weekend and once for just a night at the beginning of a longer tour of Poland and the Baltic countries. It's a nice city, much less touristy than Krakow but still with plenty to do. A pleasant surprise after my Polish ex told me what a dive it was when she was there, but that was many years ago.
