Silesian tram network

I've been reading up about the fascinating (to me, anyway) system of trams in the Katowice area and I'm thinking about flying over to Krakow then getting the train up there followed by a couple of days exploring this network.

I'm wondering if it would be classed as a "hazardous activity" for insurance purposes? Or am I just mad to even contemplate it. If I managed to get from (say) Kazimierz to Mikulczyce via Bytom would I still be sane at the end of the journey, despite being a reasonably keen tram fan.

I realise it's not exactly in the top ten list of popular worldwide tourist destinations, but I want to experience the real Poland rather than just the tasty bits.

I am train buff myself so I understand your fascination :)
I am not living in that area myself, here in Warsaw though public transport is in general very safe.

Yeah, it's pretty impressive! They decommissioned them here in Gliwice but they still run in other parts of Upper Silesia. It wasn't the most popular decision of Frankiewicz.

Yes, I noticed that a couple of lines have been closed recently. I assumed it was maybe industry (steel production?) has been decomissioned and demand reduced as a result. It's hard to tell from Google Earth but some areas look like derelict wastelands now.

My hazardous activity remark was referring to clattering along badly maintained track in worn out stock :) although one website mentioned that some improvements had been made so increasing the chances of one's survival on some routes :)

I think it has more to do with the Mayor's son complaining about the dirling effect on his flat tbh. Politics works that way and the local council made a bad call.
