A Polish City Feels Its Future Has Arrived

ON one side of Tumski Bridge in Wroclaw, in southwest Poland, the Gothic Cathedral of St. John the Baptist hovers agelessly over Ostrow Tumski, the city's oldest quarter. Nearby, a boot-sized brass dwarf sits fishing over the river's edge, one of more than 150 such statues placed throughout the city since 2001 in honor of the Orange Alternative, a Dada-influenced resistance movement that is widely considered to have had a hand in bringing down Poland's Communist regime in the 1980s.

there is a lot of truth in that. they still make ww2 movies here because some of the buildings haven't changed much since the war.

You're welcome, I found myself reading about Wrocław in the online New York Times while on a layover in Kuala Lumpur... LOL

...and after this charming guy has given you a tour you'll have to show me around... :)

What's the name of the large park that has a mini-lake and many white swans in it? It's one of my childhood memories...

Sorry, I don't know. I could name a couple of parks with lakes, but I don't know about the swans.
Which part of town is it ?

No I meant in Wrocław. I was a kid so I don't remember what part of town but it was always packed with families with kids. Lots of beautiful swans that people would take pictures of...

thanks for calling me a charming polish guy. that quote was taken from the context but still it's very true. Wroclaw has been revitalised pretty much in the area around the heart of the town. It looks modern and flashy but still in the downtown the city life and the architecture looks much more "grey". There's a lot of great stories from the modern history to tell out there

everyone is welcome for the tour if you come over to Wroclaw. Hopefully they will start running within the beginning of june. you can find my webpage at whatsupwroclaw.pl or on facebook

@ skysoulmate: the park you meant is most likely called Park Poludniowy (which means "South Park" in English). This is in Krzyki district located in the south part of Wroclaw by Sudecka street

Yes, yes! My grandmother lived in the Krzyki area, now I remember the name... Very good memories from the park, it was beautiful. Thank you.

Hi! Is it always in English or should that be booked in advance? What's the participation fee?
