property tax on residential real estate in Poland?

In the u.s. we pay an annual property tax on all major property such as homes, boats, and often automobiles. This includes an occupied primary residence. The taxes are a percentage of the assessed value of the property as decided by the tax authority to whom the tax is paid. These property taxes are often brutal, running upwards of $10,000 per annum for a modest American home. If the taxes are not paid the tax authority seized the property and auctions it off to the highest bidder.

Now, I am told this isn't how it works Poland. Some have even told me there is no property tax on primary residences in Poland. So what taxes are levied upon real estate occupied as a primary residence by the owner in Poland?

A purchase tax of 2%, plus yearly property taxes which vary widely depending on where you live.

I have a 123 m2 flat in Krakow:

Purchase tax 2%

Property tax of 86 zl a year - about EUR 20

if the land is in the city centre it might be perpetual usufruct, not freehold, which legally is somewhere between leasehold and freehold. In another city a similar sized flat pays PLN 1800 a year perpetual usufruct - but probably not considered to be a tax.

boats, and often automobiles

nothing compared to usa, plus one can skip for years without paying in poland with minimum penalties whereas in the us they sell the ;lein against your property in 12 months to recover there taxes and the lien buyers really tries to grasp your whole property charging high interest penalties etc.

Plus no yearly taxes on boat and automobile man except for renewal registration fee which in NJ is like 50 bucks a yr

Oh dear, I do hope that nobody actually listens to you and thinks that you know what you are talking about. The reality is that after twelve months the local council will file papers with the court and then some six weeks later a bailiff will help himself to your bank account to recover the debt, interest, penalty interest, court fees, legal costs and the bailiff's fee; the additional costs are likely to be significantly higher than the initial amount.

Of course you are completely wrong and Harry is right. Your gmina will indeed come after you if you don't pay your property taxes.
